It’s always been my passion since I was younger to help make the world a better place and show people to always have hope and just live life to the fullest don’t let the negativity things bring them down. I am applying for this scholarship because I need to pursue a higher education in order to give back to my community. It is my dream to be an english teacher, for I think it is a very important subject which many inner city kids neglect or find boring. I wish to open the minds of people around my age by helping them to love and understand literature. Not only is it imperative for youth to understand how language can be manipulated to trick them reading is also a healthy coping mechanism. My english teachers have helped me to become the person I am today and I wish to pay that forward.

I am applying for a scholarship to assist me with obtaining a PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. I currently obtain a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling and am CRC certified. I have a desire to become a career coach/consultant and give exposure to different work fields including small business/entrepreneurship for our African American kids. I would also like to incorporate real estate and finances to give the tools necessary to increase their abilities to achieve financial wellness. Not only that but I desire to use my PhD in the organizations that will one day hire our children and help improve performance and the wellbeing of the organization to reduce retention and increase opportunities for advancement and success. I am the 1st in my family to obtain a Master's degree and now a Phd and I was counted out when I had my 3 children young. I want to show my children that no matter what life throws your way you can achieve anything you put your mind to with the help of God.

Finally living for myself: I am a "50 something" spouse of a retired Army Sargent who has put country and family first for three decades. The United States military armed services offers a great deal of educational opportunities for service members and their families. Fortunately my spouse and children where able to use all the college credit/cash benefits that are offered. As for myself there is little to nothing for a veteran's wife with grown children. When it comes to regret, military spouses most often say they regret their choices regarding education. I wished I would have pursued my master's degree years ago but deployments, wars, relocating every 3-5 years and providing a sense of stability for the children took precedence. I am an educator by profession and the teaching bug is still in me. I have managed to obtain a graduate certificate in college counseling which has allowed me to qualify for an Education Counselor for the department of the Army. It's not a full Master's Degree but it will allow me to help young adults with their education endeavors who are transitioning out of the military. I am consider minimally qualified because I lack the educational requirements, so beating out the competition for a referral is tuff. I know I have the grit and stamina to learn successfully. I just need some financial support in order to launch my career goals forward. I am really excited about going back to school and enjoying self-development ,but I can"t escape the inevitability of aging. I still have a lot of myself to offer others and obtaining the needed credentials to get-that-job puts me back in the service.

Hello! I am a 17 year old, African American girl, high school student. I have been in health science for 3/4 years of my high school life, and is currently training to get my CNA license before i graduate. I wish to become a Dental Assistant and then go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. I know it’s a lot, but i am really passionate about health. I live with my mom who raised me by herself (cliche enough, it’s true). She worked as a bus driver for years which helped provide for her and my older brothers until she had me. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis after she had me, and she has been struggling with diabetes for years. Her health issues put her out of work so, my brothers and i have been working to help her. I started working as soon as i became 16 and i am still working till this day. If you were to grant me this scholarship, it will allow me to become successful, as i am positive i would. If you were to grant me such thing, i PROMISE you i will work day in and day out to ensure none of it is wasted. Thank you for your time.

Greetings, I am applying for this scholarship to further my career as an African American Software Engineer. I am self taught (I can code in several languages) with several personal projects as well as collaborative projects on my portfolio. I am 32 years old with 3 children (oldest 14 and youngest 3). I am in dire need to elevate my career as well as provide financial stability for my family. I chose to teach myself to become a full stack developer so that I may break generational curses and create generational wealth for my children. To help under privileged children learn how to code for free is included in my "Why". I started working at the age of 15 and became pregnant as a senior in High School. My main focus was to provide for my child. However, I lost my focus on what was important to me, my mental health, and my career. After life's challenges and my persistent drive to persevere I have come to the conclusion that this step in my life (applying for grants) is imperative and conducive to my success. I pray that I am chosen for this scholarship.

Taralynn H  on 9/2/2020 9:51:14 PM

Im a 29 year old black woman with three kids and a background that isn't favorable from my underage years. Yet, I decide to push through and continue my journey no matter how big the stumbling block. This scholarship will give me a greater opportunity to reaching a university, something I have always dreamed of since a child to graduate from college with honors. I will elaborate to students of all color to never hesitate to ask for an helping hand and that those who try to out smart something that is potentially made for their good will only outsmart themselves out of a great opportunity to share their journey with the next person who may need you or need to hear it from you specifically. I believe we all are important to everyone who walks this earth bad or good. But to be able to express that and show that requires great teachers and a great listener. I have never applied for a scholarship before so if I were to be granted the opportunity the minds I will be able to help shift from unworthy things and aid people in a positive direction by giving them short lessons from my decisions I made in life good or bad. I have a lot to say but who is to say it will get heard but a scholarship will help me pay for my education but also pay to help others to receive one too through my completion and sharing key things to how I made my completion.

Joshua James  on 8/23/2020 7:41:59 PM

I plan to apply for this scholarship because I want to be able to bring my ideas to fruition. As a young Black African American man, I notice the atrocities that surround this nation. I am trying to pursue my goal to become an Electrical Engineer. As incoming freshmen attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, this scholarship fits right in my skillset. I am willing to execute. I am ready to become successful. This scholarship starts me off in the right way.

Kaelyn H.  on 8/14/2020 5:19:54 PM

i extremely love how it focuses on african americans who try their best to get into college and succeed but needs a little help covering costs. It's important that young black inventors create a better society and achieve intellect to build their character. Even if i don't win in the future ( cause i am too young right now) i want others to know that they have the opportunity to do things that can impact their future just by receiving help. Right now, im a 8th grade skipper whose going to 9th grade early i want to earn enough credits so i can finish school early and apply to college and pursue law studies in the criminal field. I want to get justice for fellow African Americans that been wrongfully convicted and change government outlooks. Thank you!

This scholarship would be a huge stepping stone towards me gaining my degree in Psychology, on a pre-med track. As a young African American female, It is definitely hard to find your place in the medical community but, nevertheless, I am working hard towards my goal.

Kassidi Lewis  on 7/12/2020 2:59:55 AM

Hello, My name is Kassidi Lewis. I am applying for this scholarship to assist with payment towards a non-degree seeking credentials in the Rehabilitation Counseling program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Arkansas. It is a pleasure to share my experience as well as why this specific career adds value to my life. I will also provide information of the career labor market demand such as entry level pay and expectations of a Vocational Rehab Counselor. I do hope that this essay bring some inside on my motivation to apply for the scholarship. The specific career I will love is one working with individuals with disabilities who are seeking to achieve employment opportunities. Not just any career, but Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. I have an educational background in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have over 2 years of work experience as a counselor in training as an addiction counselor and a License Associate Counselor within a community agency. During my employment as a LAC and a CIT, my clients longed to feel meaningful and wanted to engage in workforce and gain skills. Some believed it could decrease their depression or use of substances. It began to be a theme I saw in majority of my caseload. I made a change in my career to become a vocational rehab counselor. It was the best decision that I feel like I have done for my career. This change in career has added so much value to my life because I am able to empower those with disabilities. Assisting clients who often feel alienated or underrepresented in working environments. I feel such extreme joy when I can use my counseling skills to encourage such motivation for clients who often feel unheard regarding entering in the workforce. That means the world to me. Because I have completed a graduate program I will only need 6 hours of the UALR rehab program and I will be able to take the certified rehabilitation certificate exam. The position I hold today allows me to provid

I was recommended this scholarship from my professor in theatre, and I would love to receive some help for the school I'm attending to. Since this school is private, the living and tuition for the school is through the roof. We received some help from them, but it wasn't enough. It would be amazing if I can receive this help so I can be another rising black actor in the department.

Kaitlyn Brewser  on 6/29/2020 10:42:09 PM

Anthony Cox  on 4/21/2020 11:09:39 PM

I was fortunate enough to come upon this wonderful opportunity to hopefully acquire a scholarship that will help a 17 year old African American man be able to afford college. Over my 4 years in High School I was able to be involved in multiple extracurricular associations that have expanded my horizon of knowledge in many categories. But one association gave me a wider aspect on the real world. DECA is a business orientated organization that prepares students to be emerging leaders in the world at the High School and Collegiate level. I have been apart of this program since my Freshmen year, sadly I was the only African American in the program but I didn't let that slash away my passion in business marketing. From the lack of African American member I put the time and effort to increase the number of African Americans in our program. I did this not to gain fame or to acquire brownie points, I did this because I saw a path that could help my community succeed in life and break the status quo. I hope to do the same action at the Collegiate level at Eastern Michigan University where the headquarters of Michigan DECA is located, also I will be majoring in Fashion Marketing Innovation. Thank you for this opportunity I hope to be able to here from you soon, Have a nice day and stay safe. - Anthony Cox

Does anyone know if this scholarship is needs-based? We are looking for scholarships that are not need-based.

I applied for this scholarship so I can pursue an education in nursing. My ultimate goal is to become an RN and possibly become a nurse practitioner. But I want nothing more than to be a nurse. Life's circumstances prevented me from being able to pursue my dream, but I got a second chance, a "do over" in life and I don't want to let this opportunity slip away.

I applied for this scholarship because I would like to pursue my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education so that I can mold Young minds so that they can pursue a better future.

I did not apply for this scholarship. The reason why is I don't view censorship is a big problem in the United States because it keeps kids minds free from negativity and disorderly conduct.
