Scholarship Description

Advocates for African Americans Carolinas Scholarship Fund is supported by Advocates for African-Americans, a Duke Energy employee resource group in Charlotte. It was founded by Duke Energy employees in 1996 to attract, nurture, develop and promote a diverse workforce. Advocates for African Americans Carolinas Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to college-bound students from North and South Carolina who are pursuing a major in engineering, math, science, computer science, accounting, finance or business administration.

Applicants must: Be a graduating senior at a North or South Carolina high school; Have a 3.5 minimum GPA; Attend full-time at a four-year college or university located in North or South Carolina; Enroll in engineering, computer science, the sciences, accounting, finance or business administration; Be an American citizen and a member of a race/ethnic category typically considered "people of color." Finalists must agree to an interview with the scholarship selection committee. Scholarships are awarded annually to two accredited colleges or universities and one community service organization. The college, university or community service organization selects the scholar using criteria that focuses on grade point average, residence, leadership skills and financial need.
