Scholarship Description

The AIA Chicago Foundation Diversity Scholarship is an opportunity to attract and retain diverse, talented young professionals in Chicago.

Scholarship Details

  • Up to two $10,000 scholarships annually
  • For students attending Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois Chicago, and the School of the Art Institute
  • Each recipient is paired with a mentor from AIA Chicago to provide guidance throughout their studies

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be enrolling in the Bachelor of Architecture program
  • Must be entering the 3rd or 4th year of a 5-year program in the fall
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Completion of a FAFSA form (if eligible)

Application Process

  1. Obtain your most recent academic transcript showing a minimum GPA of 3.0
  2. Complete the FAFSA form (if eligible) and contact us if you encounter any issues
  3. Write a 750-word statement addressing how you fulfill the Diversity Scholarship requirements and how you will contribute to the profession
  4. Prepare and upload three (3) portfolio images with brief descriptions, noting your specific contribution to any group projects
  5. Secure two (2) letters of recommendation, with at least one from a professor or employer related to the field of architecture

The AIA Chicago Foundation Diversity Scholarship aims to attract and retain diverse, talented young professionals in Chicago by recognizing the value of new and unique voices in the profession. Throughout the two years, each awardee is paired with a mentor from the AIA Chicago membership to receive ongoing guidance throughout their educational tenure.
