Greetings, my name is Isaiah, a recent high school graduate. I took a break between high school and college to teach myself how to code, and find programs that may help me further my education. I'll be going into Ivy Tech for my Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Jerry Lawson, being an electronic engineer, designed the Fairchild Channel F gaming console. It was the first to use ROM cartridges... fitting, as he lead the team that engineered commercial video game cartridges. This paved the way for more modern gaming consoles, like the ones me and others in my generation play. Being interested in the inner mechanical workings of such machines, I've also taken a liking to contraptions with designs derived from various eras. Similar to Jerry, I will be able to integrate my knowledge of electrical engineering with my passion for mechanical engineering to innovate for progression.

Hello, my name is Desmond Dukes and I am currently attending PSC, a community college located here in Pensacola, Florida. I am applying for this scholarship because it would greatly help support my journey as a college student. Recently I had to quit my job before Fall due to college getting more intense. I felt it was something that had to be done because work was getting in the way of my college work and I wanted to prioritize college over anything. Someone that inspired me would be my mom. She is a single mom of three. Despite raising us by herself, she always made sure we were well equipped. She made sure we had food, clothes, a roof over our head, and anything else that we wanted that she could afford. Even now my mom still tries to help me as much as she can. An African American who has inspired me is Sam Cooke. He is most known for his song "A Change is Gonna Come". Whenever I am at a low point in life I think about the song and how much power he put into it. He was alive during the civil rights era so the song has so much more importance. We take for granted everyday how easy our lives as African-Americans are compared to our generations before us. He was a fighter and his story makes me want to fight just as much as him. Hello My name is kierra , i am applying for the scholarship not only for financial reasons but also for my sake as well . Being the oldest in my household is very stressful because I want to be the one who my siblings look up to and throughout my 12 years of school I feel like I have not set that record . Majority of my family sees me being unsuccessful when I grow and get older and that's very very depressing. I want to make something of myself. I want to be able to tell my family what I did . Hi, I will be attending Huntington University this fall semester as a freshman also ill be studying film production and broadcasting. In my book the most influential African-American woman to grace this life is nonother than the mother of black Hollywood Jenifer Lewis!! this woman has got to be my spirit animal she is the definition of the metoo movement I mean come on from broadway to movie to the author and amazing singer not only does her story impact my life personally I mean she gives me so much hope and confidence. she writes in her late memoir about her journey from college and the many stages of life she grew through also she speaks of an abusive relationship and how she came out on top but not unscathed, she pulled even harder on my heartstrings with the time she almost got raped and how she talked her self out of it and it was the greatest performance of her life you'd think she was Sage Narada saving Valmiki the highwayman from committing another sin. (if you're not familiar that's a short story in the yoga sutras of Patanjali sutra 41) then she fully had my heart when she brought up mental illness and no not the kind you get thrown into a psych ward for the kind all of us have you know the hustle and bustle of everyday life stress that wears on you or childhood traumas even adult trauma the regrets the depression the self-loathing I mean you can name a few I'm sure, but the beauty of growing through what you go through is having the will power to climb that mountain and except your life for what it is and share your story because believe it or not the history of the world is violent we all have a story and we all are hurt but the difference between being an overcomer and just being a hurt person who hurts is allowing God into your life. Jenifer Lewis taught me that through her platform she changed my whole perspective on life I am 25 years old and ill tell you what backing down is not an option any longer.

This scholarship would financially help me and my mom. I have divorced parents and I live with my mom. She has a very low income and just had stopped paying for my sister's college in December of 2019. I would absolutely love to be awarded this scholarship because it will help me be allowed to become the nurse I have always wanted to be.
