The George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship provides financial support to outstanding Oklahoma students pursuing careers in public service. Established by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1999, this scholarship encourages academic achievement and commitment to public service. Scholarship recipients also participate in public service seminars through the Nigh Institute, gaining valuable insights and connections for their future careers.
Scholarship Details
- Annual scholarship award of $1,000
- Awarded to one student nominee per year from each participating Oklahoma college or university
- Non-renewable, awarded on a yearly basis
- Recipients participate in seminars on public service offered by the Nigh Institute
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Oklahoma as determined by the State Regents
- Must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at a public or private college or university in Oklahoma
- Must be pursuing a degree in a field leading to a career in public service, as determined by the institution
- Must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, potentially including factors such as GPA, class rank, national awards, honors, teacher recommendations, and involvement in extracurricular activities
Application Process
- The president of each Oklahoma college or university submits a nominee for the scholarship before the start of the spring semester
- An advisory committee, appointed by the George and Donna Nigh Institute, reviews nominations and approves the award recipients
- Approved recipients will be notified of their selection and award details
Scholarships will be awarded on a yearly basis and are not renewable. Each participating college or university may nominate one scholarship recipient each year.
