NIU is within your reach. We're committed to helping you afford a life-changing education. Our undergraduate tuition rates haven’t increased in the last five years, while we’ve added millions of dollars in new scholarships. Let us show you all your options for financial aid. We encourage you to apply for scholarships to help pay for your NIU education. Scholarships do not need to be repaid and are awarded based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement and financial need.
When you apply for admission to NIU as an incoming freshman or transfer student, you’ll automatically be considered for merit scholarships. These are awarded based on your high school GPA or on your transfer GPA. GPA requirements and award amounts will vary, but applicants should at least have a 3.0. The deadline for freshmen applicants is December 1 and for transfer students is March 1 (or October 1 for anyone applying for the spring semester). Must maintain a 2.75 GPA for renewal.
