Scholarship Description

The American Association of University Women Connecticut fellowship supports women scholars who are pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited Connecticut institution, and are in their junior or senior year of study. AAUW/CT awards scholarships to people who identify as women, show promise of distinction in their respective degrees, and demonstrate need. Additionally, they must be: A resident of the state of Connecticut; Enrolled in a four year degree program at a Connecticut College or University (public or private). Demonstration of financial need is also a criterion for selection.

Applicants will need to submit proof of enrollment for Senior year in order to receive the second portion of scholarship. Completion of the number of credits to be a junior with the academic goal of completing a degree program and must be enrolled full-time (At least 60 credit hours but fewer than 90 credit hours) and should be involved in supporting or advocating for women’s issues (Be a member of a women's organization; volunteer participation within the community, or a campus organization that furthers women/women’s issues.)

Application should include: Statement of your academic, professional, and personal goals (200 word limit); Résumé; Two letters of recommendation by an academic instructor and/or an academic or professional mentor; Statement of financial need describing familial financial contributions and self-funding contributions (please include financial aid, work study, other employment, awarded scholarships, and total cost of education per semester). (Please describe any extenuating circumstances which impact your ability to fund your education.) (500 word limit); and Unofficial Academic transcripts.

State Scholarship funds may be used to support financial obligations for students including: tuition, books, childcare expenses, transportation and/or lodging. The scholarship is a two year award to be equally dispersed in the amount of $3,000 per year and will be disbursed at the beginning of the Junior and Senior academic year. Scholarships are not open to previous recipients of any AAUW/CT scholarship or grant (not including branch or local awards or grants). AAUW National encourages applicants interested in funding for bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, certification programs, technical school, and other master’s degrees to consider eligibility guidelines for Career Development Grants. Applicants can only apply for one AAUW award per year.
