  • The University of Charleston has a vibrant and inclusive Band Program. Our goal is to contribute to the community and region with quality musical performance and educational outreach with our Pep/Marching Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Orchestra. With generous scholarship offerings of up to $20,000 for any performer in our bands and a renewed commitment to instrumental music by the Presidential Cabinet, UC is dedicated to music for all performers and their audience.

    We love music, and so do our students. Many of them see it as a passion (and a couple a profession), but we know you worked hard and built lifelong friendships. You don't want to lose that feeling. The UC Bands recognizes how important it is to you and want you always to have it. Students of any major can qualify for scholarships, and the audition is a virtual recording you create combined with a 30-minute lesson/interview. There is no pressure of a committee sitting judging your one performance of 3 minutes. We focus on the whole student: lesson, leadership, recommendation, preparation, and character.

University to Give New Students Free Laptops for Filing the FAFSA

The coronavirus made laptops a necessity for college students. Where before students without personal computers or laptops could use on-campus computers and provided software to meet the technological needs of their courses, the shift last spring to online classes necessitated that students have a stable internet connection and a compatible device. While the majority of students were able to meet this requirement, according to a study by EDUCASE, some students found themselves without a modern laptop that could run the most up-to-date browser, use RAM-heavy software or keep up even with reliable high-speed Wi-Fi.
