Scholarship Description

The Grand Rapids Trans Foundation Academic Scholarship helps transgender students with education-related expenses while pursuing a degree or certificate from an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational program with a satellite campus or permanent presence in Kent County, MI. This award is open to people of any age who identify as transgender (including non-binary, two-spirit, third gender, transsexual, and/or any other non-cis-gender identity) and who demonstrate financial need. Student privacy is respected. We will not share any identifying information without the applicant's written permission. There is no GPA requirement. Students of color and students with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The number of recipients will vary.

Apart from completing the application, applicants must also submit an essay (500-word maximum) that responds to the following prompts: Tell us about your goals. How will this scholarship help your life outcome and your ability to reach your goals? Have you experienced barriers in education, employment, or otherwise related to your trans identity? Describe any individual circumstances that present difficulties in pursuing your goals.
