Several state Grants and Scholarships are available to New Mexico residents to help pay for college. Unlike loans, grants and scholarships do not need to be repaid. However there are conditions for eligibility such as established need, a minimum GPA or required number of completed credit hours per semester. Grant is for a period of one year and may be renewed on an annual basis or until the student graduates with a bachelor’s degree from an eligible institution.
The New Mexico Student Incentive Grant is for resident undergraduate students (the number of awards varies each year) with substantial financial need who are attending public and private non-profit institutions in New Mexico. Applicants much be a U.S. citizen and New Mexico resident. Enroll as an undergrad at least as a part-time student. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Students should contact their institutions to inquire about the deadlines.
