“Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program” provides financial assistance to help the sons, daughters, or legally adopted children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pursue post-high-school education. Scholarships are awarded annually. The scholarship program was launched in October 1999 through a generous gift from the families of past ARTBA chairmen Jack (1991) and Stan (1999) Lanford of Roanoke, Virginia. Today, it is supported by contributions from highway construction industry executives and firms, state transportation groups, and labor organizations.

The applicant must use the scholarship award to attend a post-secondary institution of learning that requires a high
school diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (G.E.D.) for admission. This could include any public or private: (a) four-year accredited college or university; (b) two-year accredited college; or (c) vocational-technical college or training institution.

Hello, first and foremost thank you for having the heart to give back. My name is Jimmy Brown. I am an African American Honor student since 2nd grade. My cumulative g.p.a is 3.86. I’m a senior attending Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA. My goal is to get a degree is Health Science. I am applying for this scholarship so that my situation of financial hardship to go to college does not prevent me from my heart’s desire to help people as my future career. I’ve played football for 9 years straight and during my life time I’ve seen a lot of unhealthy people and multiple injuries. I want to help people especially upcoming generations and elderly get healthy and live and improve their bodies. I’ve been injured a few times but by Gods grace I recovered. Experience is the best teacher and my goal is to help and educate others so they won’t go through what I went through. Thank you for your time and for considering me.
