Scholarship Description

The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship supports future leaders in environmental, Tribal public policy, and health care fields. This prestigious and competitive scholarship honors the legacies of Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall, whose work significantly impacted Native American self-governance, health care, and public lands stewardship. Recipients also participate in a multiday Scholar Orientation experience.

Scholarship Details

  • 55 scholarships of $7,000 each anticipated this year
  • Supports students in environmental, Tribal public policy, and health care fields
  • Scholars participate in a multiday Scholar Orientation experience
  • Administered by the Udall Foundation

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduates committed to leadership and public service in eligible fields
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential
  • Additional documentation required for applicants in Tribal public policy, health care, or who are U.S. permanent residents

Application Process

  1. Participate in your school’s internal competition (if applicable)
  2. Prepare and submit the following:
    • 11-question application
    • An 800-word essay related to the Udall Foundation’s core values
    • Transcripts for all college coursework
    • Three letters of recommendation highlighting leadership, public service, and academic achievements
    • Additional documentation for Tribal public policy and health care applicants
  3. Submit all materials by the Udall Foundation’s deadline
  4. Await notification of award status and, if selected, participate in the Scholar Orientation experience
