The American Kidney Fund is pleased to announce the Carolyn Wilson Dialysis Patient Scholarship. This scholarship provides support for residents of Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma with end stage renal disease (ESRD) who wish to further their education or vocational training.
Scholarship Details
- Up to $5,000 awarded per academic year (fall, spring, and summer combined)
- Covers tuition only—books, transportation, and other expenses are not eligible
- Scholarships may be renewed for one additional year based on successful academic performance and fund availability
- Funds are paid directly to the educational or vocational institution
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma
- Must have been diagnosed with ESRD (stage 5 kidney disease)
- Must be currently on dialysis or a kidney transplant recipient
- Must demonstrate financial need through the expenses vs. income section on the application
Application Process
- Download or photocopy the application form
- Complete the scholarship application form in full
- Write a 2–3 page Statement of Purpose essay explaining how kidney disease has impacted your life and how your chosen educational or vocational program will support your goals
- Obtain a reference letter from a nephrology professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, social worker, or dietitian) who can assess your ability to stay compliant with your treatment while pursuing education
- Submit all materials by the deadline: July 15th
- If selected, sign a letter of acceptance confirming your enrollment
Scholarships of up to $5,000 per academic year (fall, spring, and summer semesters combined) per person will be awarded. The scholarship period lasts for one year. Funding for subsequent years will depend on availability of funds and documentation of successful completion of the previous academic year. Applicants can receive funding for up to two years but must reapply to be considered for a second year of funding.
