  • Paying for school is a challenge for the majority of today’s college students. As education costs continue to climb, so too does the competition for the limited financial aid available. According to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), the number of students applying for federal financial assistance increased by a staggering 29% between the 2006 and 2016 school years. The medical field is no exception to this trend, with record numbers of new students competing for a limited number of available healthcare scholarships, grants and loans and at new ways to help pay for school.

My name is Gracie Mecikalski, I am 22 years old. My short term academic goals are to wrap up the remainder of my pre-nursing courses required for application to Casper College's nursing program. My long term academic goals are to excell and complete my ADN and hopefully transition over to a BSN program! At this time I currently hold a 3.4 GPA. My career goal is to become a registered nurse. I am so excited to do this, as I grew up in a family where my mother is a registered nurse, so it's always been apart of my life! I have always known that it's what I wanted to do! My plans for achieving these goals are to continue to do what I've been doing the last couple of years, which is work hard, study, and perservere through many different health science classes as well as required general classes that I've been taking! Because I am currently required to work and go to school at the same time, I don't find that I have a lot of free time for extracurricular activities. However, when I do have a free moment I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, my family, and my cat! I enjoy the outdoors, camping, fly fishing, etc., and I play the violin. In regard to my leadership abilities, the moment I was able to recieve my CNA certifcation at age 18, I did. Through that, I've realized that I do posess strong leadership qualities. I enjoy teaching and guiding new CNA's in the field of healthcare. I try to be patient and kind in my attempts at providing education where possible to new employees/coworkers! As a CNA, I worked in the home health area, and I also discovered that I am a good self starter and an effective and efficient worker. I do have experience volunteering for different organizations through out my adult life. On different occasions, I have assisted with preperation of some of our local community free holiday meals and I really enjoy helping people in any way possible. As I mentioned earlier, I am required at this time to juggle both school and

I am applying for this scholarship to help me pursue my educational dream of becoming an occupational therapist. In Highschool, I was going back and forth on what I wanted to do in the future. I loved working in the special education classroom and that is where I first saw an occupational therapist work firsthand. I knew from that day that I wanted to pursue a career in the occupational therapy field. This scholarship will help provide less financial stress which trying to study for school and still trying to pay for classes.

I applied for this scholarship to assist me with becoming a physical therapist. I became interested in physical therapy when I was a sophomore in high school and had an injury to my elbow because of baseball. I went to a doctor and he set up physical therapy for me. As I went to the sessions before school my elbow improved. I played for my high school that season before everything shut down for COVID. During the lockdown, I started to really think about what I wanted to do later in life. I knew I wanted to do something active and not have a desk job. As time passed, we had to do some research projects in school about what we wanted our profession to be. I did not know for certain yey but kept remembering the time I had to do physical therapy and the interactions I had with my therapists. I thought that that would be an amazing profession because I get to talk and build relationships with patients, be active, and help people. Physical Therapy just grabbed my interest. From my experience with my grandmother living in an assisted-living facility, residents can fall because of their weakened and fragile bodies. My grandmother had fallen several times and eventually broke her hip, and fractured her ribs which punctured her lungs. With physical therapy, elderly people can reduce their chances of falling and getting injured.

I am applying for this scholarship so it will help me succeed in my future and education of going into the healthcare field. Going into the healthcare field has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl. My grandpa is a big influence for me because he is a doctor. Helping others is something I’ve always wanted to do and it’s what I excel in. When I get into the field I want to become a OB/GYN. Earning this scholarship would help my family and I out a lot.

I am applying for this scholarship to further my education in the healthcare field. My goal is to become a board-certified geriatrics physician, my passion for health is intertwined in research and daily practice. This past summer I found out my neighbor, who is a quadriplegic was left alone with no assistance, all of my studying paid off, I was able to use a Hoyer lift, do physical therapy, and monitor his condition, all summer until a nurse was available for outpatient care. The medical field needs more women of color, and receiving this scholarship will allow me to continue my education, for not only those around me but for future patients I will be responsible for, under the right leadership.

I am applying for this scholarship because it has always been a dream of mine to be a physical therapist and work in the medical field. I have had to go through physical therapy twice for a broken hand and for my knee after getting hurt. Seeing myself go through therapy or anyone else go through therapy really inspired me to become a physical therapist. I decided to do this with my life because I want to be able to help people get better and continue to do things with their life's and be happy. I also feel like being a physical therapist will be very helpful in communities and for sports as well. In hopes of getting this scholarship, I would be able to get the assistance and help to pursue my dream job and work place by becoming a physical therapist.

I am applying for this scholarship because it has been my dream since my freshman year in high school to go into the medical field and become a licence family nurse practitioner. My mom is my biggest roll model and supporter, she is the reason I've wanted to go into healthcare for such a long period of time. She went to college at Clarkson University and I would like to do the same. She became a licensed nurse practitioner and has impacted our community greatly, and I would like to do the same. My goal in life is to be the most successful in my field and be able to learn new things everyday. In order to be the greatest, I have to put my heart and soul into the endeavors I would like to achieve. Being able to help people live a better life has always been an amazing passion for me. Helping people brings me joy in my everyday life.

I have gone through many obstacles and continue too such as being bullied, needing a reconstructed wrist and as well struggle with depression and anxiety etc I have had rough obstacles and I want to just keep improving. Being able to help others is my dream goal, this scholarship would help me achieve these goals because I come from a Family that is very proud of my success. We are not rich at all to be quite honest it is the opposite, my family works hard so I can go to school and achieve dreams that they could not. I felt that it was important to have a goal in life and one of my biggest goal in life growing up as a kid was to always want to become a doctor or work in the medical field. I made the decision to join the health care field based on my own choice, What made me want to really want to join this field was the love of getting to meet new people and being able to lend a hand to the people in need. One thing I learned studying in the health care industry is that I am a people person to say at least i love meeting new people and talking with people and getting to know them but growing up as a kid I was never a talking kinda kid but as i started going into the health care industry I started opening up to people and got used to talking to people the health care industry helped me alote and in the near fututre what i want to do is help the community i grew up on and help the people in need and give back to the community.
