Scholarship Description

Brent P. Poor died in a tragic boating accident on July 26, 2010. This scholarship, established by his wife, honors his memory by offering college tuition assistance to children who have lost a parent.

Eligibility

  • Must be the child of a widow/widower who has never remarried
  • Must be enrolling/enrolled as a full-time college student in Louisiana or Texas

Scholarship Award Amount

The scholarship is $1,000 per semester for 8 consecutive semesters. The maximum award is $8,000.

Application Requirements

  • Application
  • Academic transcript from previous semester
  • Academic resume
  • FAFSA Student Aid Report showing your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) score
  • Copy of parent’s death certificate
  • Essay response to the prompt "Please explain how the death of your parent has impacted your family and the challenges you have had to overcome."
