The Barry Carey M.D. Scholarship is to provide college scholarships for practicing Catholic students graduating from Catholic, private, and public high schools within the Diocese of Venice in Florida counties. The scholarship recipients must be the first-generation in their family to attend a college or university.
Applicants must be current high school senior at Catholic School, private school, public school or home school in the Diocese of Venice, Florida and must complete an online application and financial needs assessment. Student must submit Verification of Parish Affiliation form and an essay on what their Catholic faith has meant to them and how it has impacted their life. Must prove acceptance into an accredited college or university and supply documentation of academic performance in high school and a description of extracurricular activities including, but not limited to, work, clubs, teams, etc. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees and tutoring services (housing and living expenses are not eligible). Members or relatives of the Catholic Community Foundation staff, Board of Directors, the Office of Catholic Schools, the Scholarship Committee or Barry L. Carey are ineligible to apply.
