All throughout my life I had struggled to find my identity and be true to myself. I had also always had a low-self esteem. It has been about three months since I decided to finally be true to myself and to acknowledge that what I was feeling was exactly the right thing. I had always been afraid of others knowing that I was attracted to boys. I would compensate by always saying I wanted a girlfriend. Even though that was something I really did not desire. As I think back to the middle of fall quarter it brings tears to my eyes. I remember sitting waiting for the bus and wondering if what I felt was correct. I had feelings for a queer friend that were so intense I felt I could no longer suppress what I felt. I was blessed enough to confide in a close friend and she was great support.

My whole life I have always been different. I was never interested in the opposite sex. I was the very fist girl from my school to take a girl to prom. I had to get lots of permission for them to even allow me to do so. Everyone around me has been supportive for me being out. I could not be happier to be able to be who I am and not hide from being with who I love. Living in Alabama, it is hard to be lesbian. I work as a certified nursing assistant and I have to hide who I am, because most are against it. I have been out since I was 14, I am now 22. I could not be more happier with myself, than I am being out to all my friends and family.
