Scholarship Description

Distinguished Young Women is the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school girls. Scholarships are available in two ways: cash tuition scholarships (which can be used at any accredited institution of higher learning) and college-granted scholarships (over 100 colleges and universities offer scholarships to program participants ). Scholarship Details

  • Nationwide Program: Distinguished Young Women operates in all 50 states and Washington DC.
  • High School Juniors/Seniors: Eligible participants are high school juniors or seniors depending on their state's program.
  • National Finals: State representatives gather in Mobile, Alabama, for the Distinguished Young Women National Finals after high school graduation.
  • Comprehensive Experience: Participants engage in community service, life skills development, and on-stage performances during the two-week National Finals event.
  • Scholarships: Over $118 million in cash scholarships have been awarded at local, state, and national levels since 1958.

Eligibility Criteria

  • High School Students: Open to high school junior and senior girls.
  • National Participation: The program is available in all states, offering opportunities for young women nationwide.

Application Process

  1. Check your eligibility as a high school junior or senior.
  2. Explore the Distinguished Young Women program in your state.
  3. If eligible, prepare for the National Finals held in Mobile, Alabama, the June after high school graduation.
  4. Engage in community service, life skills development, and on-stage performances during the National Finals.
  5. Compete for scholarships awarded at local, state, and national levels.

Applicants must be female high school juniors or seniors, and legal residents of the county and state of competition. Participants are evaluated on scholastic achievement, interview, talent, fitness, and public speaking. Before you apply, be aware that in order to qualify for or win any of the scholarships offered by Distinguished Young Women, you must participate in a program. This includes attending a rehearsal(s) and being a part of an on-stage performance. Dollar amounts will vary.
