The Elizabeth River Crossings Good Citizen Scholarship is awarded to one high school senior at each of the eight public high schools in Portsmouth and Norfolk, and one home schooled senior from both Portsmouth and Norfolk, for their education and demonstration of citizenship within their school and community.
Scholarship Details
- $6,000 total scholarship, dispersed in $1,500 annual increments
- Awarded to one senior from each public high school in Portsmouth and Norfolk, plus one home schooled senior from each city
- Funds may be used for tuition or other educational expenses at colleges, trade schools, or post-secondary institutions
Eligibility Criteria
- High school seniors in Portsmouth and Norfolk, including home schooled students
- Demonstrated citizenship and community involvement
- Proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution required each year
Application Process
- Complete the online application form
- Submit an essay on citizenship and community involvement
- Provide two letters of recommendation
- All materials must be submitted by the specified deadline

Our mission is to give back to our community while striving for the highest level of safety and care. As part of their commitment to connecting the communities of Portsmouth and Norfolk, ERC is proud to contribute to local organizations as well as partnerships across the region. They focus their efforts in providing resources for education assistance, health initiatives, homelessness & hunger relief efforts, and improving the environment.
