Scholarship Description

The MBTA has a separate 501(c) 3 charitable foundation that awards scholarships through the MBTA Educational Foundation. Most of the money raised for the scholarships comes from the Foundation’s annual Super Raffle. Preference may be given to students attending Maine universities or colleges, apart from the Millard Pray Scholarship which goes to students affiliated with CPM Constructors. Preference may also be given to students who have worked in the transportation or construction or engineering field, or who have shown other indications that construction or transportation is their career of choice.

Applicants must have completed high school or the equivalent and be accepted or enrolled in a relevant program of study, including civil engineering, construction management, construction trades, marine, rail or aviation studies, heavy equipment operation, diesel mechanic or similar majors. Applicants must write an essay (minimum of 150 words) describing why they wish to pursue a transportation or construction related career and attach a resume with work history, honors, references, and any other information applicant may want to share. Dollar amounts will vary, as some scholarships don't have a specified amount right up front.
