Powell Scholars are one-of-a-kind students, and it is a privilege to share in their personal and intellectual growth.
Scholarship Details
- Program Overview: The Powell Scholars program is designed to support exceptional students in their academic and leadership pursuits.
- Number of Scholarships: Up to 10 scholarships are awarded annually by the University of the Pacific.
- Selection Process: Finalists will be invited to an on-campus interview with the Powell Scholars selection committee in February.
Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Excellence: Applicants should have an unweighted cumulative high school GPA of 3.7 or higher.
- Rigorous Curriculum: Successful candidates typically complete a challenging academic curriculum that includes Honors, AP, and/or IB courses.
- Leadership Potential: Candidates should demonstrate leadership skills or potential in at least two areas, such as student government, community service, cultural groups, research, creative activities, or sports.
Application Process
- Application for Admission: Students interested in the Powell Scholars Program should indicate their desire to be considered within their University of the Pacific admission application by checking the designated box labeled "Powell Scholars Program."
- Scholarship Application: After your admission application has been reviewed, you will receive instructions via email on how to apply for the Powell Scholarship.
- Interviews: In February, select finalists will be invited to an on-campus interview with the Powell Scholars selection committee.
The Powell Scholarship is the University of the Pacific's premier academic merit award, and is designed to cultivate future leaders through mentoring, instruction, and service. Applicants must be high school seniors, have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, have undertaken a rigorous academic curriculum while in high school, demonstrate superior leadership skills, and have a SAT score of at least 1350 or ACT of at least 30. All Powell Scholars must be seeking to earn a four-year undergraduate degree.
