I am applying for this scholarship to give a voice that they all need. People don't realize sometimes the cruelty that goes on with animals through closed doors. The meows the high pitches that no one else seems to catch on no one can hear them. Animal cruelty is a very serious issue that many people need to start listening to. The animals cried and cried and no one would listen. Animals welfare is within our own welfare. The animals that are going through this are in our care. They are needing up to provide for them. The animals in need are you companion , your family. They see everything that you go through and everything you put them through. They still wag their tails or let you pet them because they are pure. They are the sunshine through the day. Even the strays that get put through so much even have a amazing heart. So stop putting the animals through so much. How about we stop with the killings and the torture. How about love instead of hate within our society. The animals love you , so why can you not love them back. We need to join together to create people of love and not hate. To love and stop hurting our animals it all begins with you and how you see the world. I had a dog named princess who I had right after my dad died. She was the most energetic and amazing dog ever we had so many great memories. We had to give her away ,but luckily it was to a family member and I can still see her. She still wags her tail even though she is 10 and extremely old. The smile on her face and the way she acts it reminds me of sunshine. She creates love and sunshine everywhere she goes just like other dogs. So might I ask you do you really want to create more darkness in the world, or are you going to let sunshine flow through.

I applied for this scholarship because not only do I love animals, but I also love helping them. A little research showed me that there are about 70 million homeless dogs in the United States and only 3,500 shelters in the U.S. In my opinion that isn’t enough to get all the stray dogs off the streets(hence them being euthanized due to overcapacity). My goal in the future would be to become a company owner of animal shelters around the states to help dogs and other animals in need and this scholarship would help give me a little jump start.

Hi, my name is Ryan O’Connor, I applied for this scholarship not only for my love of animals, but to be their advocate. Throughout my life I have been not listened to or understood academically and medically and in return didn’t get provided what is best for me. In my eyes, this is animals daily life. Even though they are living beings, capable of things we as humans even can’t, they have no voice. The mistreatment of animals is cruel and impacts so many aspects of our life, not only in food. Animals are tested with makeup and many other products, as well as skinned, neglected, and hundreds of other forms. In a world always pushing for peace, why are the cries of animals unheard? Do we only have respect for our pets at home? I believe slowly that we can change that, for animals, for the environment, for the peoples health, and for our future generations.

My family and I foster cats and dogs back to health and help pick a forever home. I love each animal that comes to my home. I am applying for this scholarship because of the way I grew up wanting to protect every animal in the world due to my love for them. I understand that there are some animal cruelty in our society and that is why I am applying for this scholarship in order to grow my confidence and protect the animals that need our help today. We should all come together and provide these animals with love instead of killing them for something as little as clothing styles or purses. Every animal has feelings of sadness, happiness, loss, and fear... So instead of hurting them or killing them, lets all make a change and care for them and make the population of animals and humans not diverse but together.

I am applying for this scholarship because I believe strongly in the subject, I may only be 14 but I think this subject needs to be talked about. Animals all over the world are misunderstood and being killed off and no one seems to want to take a stand against it? Why? Animals were here before us and deserve to be hereafter us. Even if u don’t like I certain animal doesn’t mean it diverse to be killed off. They don’t mean to harm, they never meant to start harming anyone they got scared and couldn’t help it, but they are still beautiful creatures. So, yes I am going to take action on this subject, I’m not gonna sit around while people try to walk all over this.

I am applying to this scholarship because I consider myself an animal activist. I try to equally manage injustice may it be for humans or animals; Injustice is injustice whether it be toward animals or humans. Animals are being mistreated in the most inhumane ways and most individuals are being ignorant on this topic. It is easier to turn a blind eye to this cause rather than step up and do something that can help society as a whole. Polar bears dying due to climate change and glaciers melting, animals being kept in captivity, and animals being trained in parks such a SeaWorld are problems that need to be addressed and can no longer be ignored. I want to see animals being treated well because they don't have a voice to defend themselves with, so I try my hardest so my voice in heard for them.

I am applying for this scholarship because I live in a small town where I see animals being harmed and running loose everyday. I worked with my school on a project for our Future Problem Solvers and the mission was called P.A.W.S which stands for People Against Wrongful Surrender. We worked with local animal shelters and donated supplies and created a safe haven for people to surrender their animals to after hours. We donated supplies and food to the shelters and went to our town meeting to talk about how this was such a problem. I believe we can stop this problem if everyone pitches in and we all do our part.

I am applying due to the fact animals are abused everyday. My dog is named Star, I work at a Vet clinic and I visit the shelter behind it. One day I came in and saw her. She had gashes all over her ribs and feet, her nose and mouth were burnt, and she was malnourished. I sat and waited for her to come to me and eat, over the span of two hours she finally came to me and ate. She was terrified and only stayed by me after this. I was able to bathe her and get rid of the fleas and ticks eating away her skin. I took her to the clinic and bandaged her gashes. Only in 2 days I fell in love with her. I soon asked my parents and they said yes. She was spayed and was on bed rest for one week after the surgery and gaining weight. Soon me and my family noticed she was abused by a male figure who used brooms, belts, and pans to abuse her. It is now a house rule not to wear hoodies in the house and not take off belts in front of her. She is the love of my life and I would do anything for my dog. She is now 2 years old, healthy, crazy, bed hog of a dog that I love dearly. Without her I don't know if I would be the same person I am today. My car rides and Dunkin trips would not be the same without her. This story is the reason why I am applying. Animals are abused and hurt and need to be taken care of and not punished by society.

I am applying to this scholarship because ever since I was a child I have been active in giving a voice to those who don't have one. My mom being a veterinarian assistant in the past sparked my interest in the health and safety of animals. I do not tolerate the abuse of any animal and have even changed my lifestyle to accommodate to not support factory farming. I try to help in any way possible, and I have donated to local shelters whenever they need food, toys, and blankets. I continue to spread activism on social media to open people's minds to what is really happening around them. I have came here to apply because i have a big heart for all animals. Animals have it hard and some people do not realize it! I want to work with the animals when im older and even now at my young age. Two years i started to help the farm animals like horses, pigs, chickens, and cows and more. The day i found out i loved animals is when i saved the ladies pregnant dog from under a crate, her sad eyes while she was scared fighting to make sure all of them lived! I knew that even though it was scary i realized animals need help. Animals deserve better. It is horrible when you hear a animal is hurt, abused, or leave them on streets.

I am applying for this scholarship because thousands of a animals are dying everyday due to humans. In fact research has shown 60% of animal population has been wiped out by humans since 1970 it’s horrible how many innocent animals have died from hunting,furs,testing,pollution,plastic,habit loss,illegal poaching,abuse,and shelters and so many animals are have gone extinct or in danger. Animals who have been here centuries before us have gone extinct because of us humans.For example rhinos due to its medicinal properties, their horns which are also used as trophies and decorations and are in high demand there are three types of endangered rhinos Black rhino, Sumatran rhino and Javan rhino in fact Sumatran rhinos are on the verge of extinction with less than 75 remaining in the world.No animal should be treated like this like so they deserve a chance for a better future with some love and a little consideration for these innocent and beloved creatures the world will become a better place and humans and animals can live in a better environment thank you.

It is a fact proven when saying that animals are not being heard. Despite whoever believes their cat or dog tells them they love them daily, it’s just not proven true. Animals have gone far too long with being abused and walked all over. The fact is animals are living creatures who despite being able to bark and meow and etc. NEED a voice to help them be heard. I’ve always considered myself to be an animal lover, I mean how could you not with their cute adorable faces? Consider what many people may say, I believe each animal is special in their own way and is a beautiful being with feelings and a heart. Animals mean so much to me..which is probably the main reason I am applying to this scholarship. I believe our world has only been growing the hatred and neglect for animals which truly hurts my heart. I am here today to hopefully be a part of the change in this world for our loving animals. To rebirth them a home, food, warmthness, and overall a safe place to live. I was completely ecstatic that this scholarship exists. My whole life I have loved every animal I have ever come into contact with. Coming from a family that beliefs in hunting was hard growing up because I couldn't explain why I cared so much, but I always have. Once I was finally able to collect myself and explain to my family how much the animals mean to me they understood that I have a gently heart and they all swore to never hunt again. I know 1 family stop hunting doesn't mean anything but it meant the world no animal would be brought to harm by anyone I knew or loved.

The cries of an animal will only be heard by the people who care. selfish humans will look the other way and just hope for the best but the people that really care will step in and save them even if that means putting their own life at risk. Animals are being slaughtered in the most horrific way possible you can think of and I am going to make a dent in the difference of changing that. I have always been good at talking to animals through an understanding body language signals. I let them understand that I am only there to help not hurt and if they need me I am always there for them. people need a little more sympathy for those who just want to live. I am applying for this scholarship today because i am wanting to go into Veterinary Medicine. I have always had a passion for animals. That passions lead to me wanting to go to school for it and learning about what happens in this world. Animals don't have voices as we all know but if they did what do you think they would say. They would tell us when we are hurt and when they need something. This world is horrible, animals are abused and killed in horrible ways everyday and i want that to stop. I follow lots of cases on animals through social media all the time. The process of getting animals out of a situation weather its abuse or hording, then they get the care they need, and new homes. Those are my favorite stories. In the far future i am wanting to poem my own Veterinary clinic and rescue. They need help and i want to do what ever i can.

I am applying to this scholarship because I experienced first had how animals get abused, they don´t have a voice to speak up so it is so so so important that we speak up for them. When I was six my mom was heavily abusing drugs, it made her an over all horrible person. On top of her abusing me and my sister, she would abuse the dogs. I have never understood how someone can have so much hate in there hearts that they feel the need to take it out on animals. I think we all need to be the voice of one who don´t have a voice, and it goes for dogs, cats, birds, bears, turtles, and even monkeys have all experienced abuse. We have all seen videos about animals getting abused, and when you go to the comments there so much encouragement from the viewers. It is sickening how so many people find it funny or enjoyable to hear the cry's of an animal. I believe we are put on this earth to love, and there are so many people doing the exact opposite. God wants us to love every creation just as he does, and it breaks my heart that we abuse his wonderful creations.

I am applying to this scholarship because I have seen first hand how bad animals have it sometimes. Animals do not deserve to be treated the way that they do sometimes. I have seen firsthand of cases coming through the shelter that my mom works at of people hording dogs, abusing, starving and breeding them to the point they have no energy. My family personally has fostered, rescued, transport and adopted dogs. We have help bottle feed puppies because the mom to them was in such a bad case from a hording case. We have bottle feed kittens because no one would take them . One of our dogs we have no was just supposed to be a foster but we actually wound up adopting. I personal believe people should adopt not shop when it comes to getting animals. It gives the animals a new life and shows that they are going to be cared for and loved.

I'm applying for this scholarships because I believe humans were made to be the voices of the unheard. The frightened, the scared, the innocent, and sometimes the forgotten. Animals have roamed this earth way before humans even existed. They lived on the land, they created ecosystems, and they functioned quite well. Animals speak their own languages and they interact beyond just how they communicate. When humans came along, they took the land they wanted, hunted the animals they wanted, and those creatures became subject to any abuse, fashion trend, or fancy of the human race. When humans came, they introduced a new kind of fear. For instance, the Dodo birds who never seen humans before were hunted to extinction because they never had to worry about predators before. Animals supply us with so much, the food on our table, a companion, guard, therapy, knowledge, etc. Without them this world is nothing. Humans owe it to them to care for them, protect them, and to advocate for their rights. I have actively volunteered in animal rescue companies such as Pasados Safe Haven and 2nd Chance Wildlife Center. In those places I was met with the after effects of abuse, neglect, fear, and a little bit of hope. It is our jobs as humans to make sure those animals never run out of hope. I would help dress their wounds, sanitize their living grounds, walk the dogs, socialize with the animals that never knew what love was, and in the end watch them be taken to loving homes. Thats all a pet wants. I don't think love should ever be too much to ask for, especially if that is all they ever give.

I came around this scholarship while looking for many ones to apply for and I knew I had to write about this one. When I was a little girl I used to live next door to someone who owned at least 15 cats and me, as a little girl would go over there and play with them but, little did I know that those cats were not getting proper care like they should have been getting. The cats were malnourished, their fur was very dirty and old looking, and they did not look happy in their eyes. We, humans, need to take care of our pets and treat them how we humans want to be treated, with care and respect. I applied for this scholarship because I want to help the animals that are not getting treated properly, I want to make sure that they are in homes where they are getting treated correctly, and lastly, I want to make it aware that animals just like humans, have feelings and we need to respect and honor their feelings.

I am applying for this scholarship because I have seen the way some individuals mistreat animals. My mother has been an animal rescuer and in charge of a Humane Society. Now she currently owns her own nonprofit rescue to help any animal that may be mistreated or needs a place to go. I am well aware of many aspects some people have gone through just to get rid of an animal. I believe that all animals deserve to be treated great. I believe that this world needs to be a better place for these animals. They should treat them like they are a kid in some ways. Animals require a lot of attention and time. Many people get these animals to just never be home and leave them locked up all day. If you are getting a pet I believe you should do the research or what they may require. People should support what they require and give them that and plus some.. These animals don't have a voice. WE are there voice. We have to stand up and make sure they get the best lives they can have. I have seen so many terrible cases of animals being mistreated. I have been to houses where they have starved the animals to death because they moved and just left the animal in the house to defend for themselves. I have been out to horse calls where they're down because they were so starving and malnourished they could no longer stand. I have also helped save many animals. Not just cats or dogs. I've had reptiles as well and many other types of animals. I want to be able to save as many animals lives as I can and educate some on how to deal with them. Now my education I am pursuing is in the medical field but I will use some knowledge from that and aspects to help animals too. They deserve so much better than what a lot of them are being treated as. This scholarship would mean the world to me because it is one step to furthering my career and helping people and animals around this world. Thank you for this opportunity.

Animals deserve all the love and care in the world. It is so important for our society to see them as equals. Just because animals do not have the voice to speak does not mean they don't feel any of the abuse, neglecting, or pain. As an owner of a pet, I understand how much love and affection they need. Once I reach the age of 16, I plan to be a volunteer at the Human Heroes organization of pet adoption. The goal of these lovely animals to be adopted is an endearing goal close to my heart. I feel strongly about humanity taking a step back considering their actions. Respect for the animal community should definitely be seen to make a lasting impact on society.

I am applying for this scholarship because all throughout my life my house has been home to four or more shelter animals at once, this had taught me to love any size or shape animal from far and wide. I actively volunteer at a local animal shelter, where I help the animals there feel totally loved and be adequately taken care of. All my life I have felt immense love for all animals, especially those who have been mistreated or abandoned by their past owners. I feel so compelled to help these mistreated, wonderful, creatures for the rest of my life. I would love to become a vet and open my own practice, where the goal is to help any animal that is brought in, at a fraction of the price that most vets nowadays charge. Thank you.

I am applying for this scholarship because animals are treated poorly and tortured this day and time and we have to put a stop to it. We love animals and I hate to see them hurt, starved, treated poorly. Animals have feelings as well and most don't think of that or even care, we have to try and make a change and save the animals. My education will be in the medical field and I will use what I have to volunteer and help animals as well as people. I actually rescued 2 of my dogs from the shelter and I found my 3rd dog homeless and dirty and all covered in all types of things and no my 4th and 5th dog was abandoned in the middle of the street and they are finally 6 months old. so in total, I have 5 dogs and one cat I love them all to death and I would never want to see them get hurt.

I'm applying for this scholarship because many animals are being tortured and being treated horribly which disgusts me. Animals have never done anything to us, they are caring, and loyal to us. But what do most humans repay those animals for their loyalty? Abuse. It's disgusting because it happens a lot but we just don't see it. Dog shops are an example, the only thing they present you with is the adorable dog but what they don't tell you is its background. How the dog's mother right now is in a puppy mill forcefully having puppies so that they buyer gets their money. I am applying for this scholarship because this topic really hits close to my heart. I have been vegetarian for five years now and it has been the best choice I have ever made in my life. After seeing what goes on behind the closed doors of slaughterhouses is despicable, and I'm so glad I was able to know the truth. I want to try and help be the change, and educate as many people as possible about what goes on to these poor animals, which most people say don't "have emotions" but studies have shown and the way they treat humans if they were pets that that is totally false. I will be the voice for animals and stand up for what is right since these poor innocent animals cant stand up for themselves.

I am applying for this scholarship because animals need help getting adopted, if they don’t get adopted they get killed especially if they do not get adopted for a long time. People get animals just because they are cute, but animals have feelings and they are really good companions. Some animals are abused and disabled, and people don’t adopt them because they are not cute or because they are a little aggressive. People don’t think about why or what happened to the animal, they only think about the animals looks. I want all animals to be able to have a good home without having to be harmed or without people thinking about the looks about the animal.

I apply for this scholarship to talk about the abusive treatment animals have endured. Humans are the main cause for animal extinction for their own personal benefits. Animals can be killed to make furs, be eaten or go through other inhumane forms of torture. Now in the 21st Century the way humans treat animals are being more publicized and changes are being made. September 2014, US states forbid the possession of a list of exotic pets and other laws have been put in place to protect animal extinction. While another 10 million animals die from maltreatment in the US alone yet only 2,000 cases are shown to the media. On average 250,000 animals are serious victims of animal hoarding. Hoarders usually have hundreds of cats and dogs. These animals are starved, have frivolous medical issues, dental and eye infections, and psychological anguish.

I came across this scholarship and I picked it because of my strong compassion for animal welfare. I have had many pets in my life all rescued from various situations. The first family dogs we got my dad found in a junkyard stuck in one of the seats of the car with her back legs broken at a few weeks old. We don't know if she was left there or if she was from a stray dog. A few years later she ran out the front door and got his by a car that kept driving. The person that did that hurt her bad and she was in the hospital for a few days. Unfortunately she inst with us she lived 16 years with us happy and healthy in our care. She was strong and will never be forgotten and I feel bad for the past people who hurt her but she is in a better place now. Hopefully, I will be considered for this scholarship to help pay for vet school every little bit helps. Thank you.

In todays world we see a lot of animal abuse. Whether it's in our own home or in the home of others and can't seem to do anything about it as they often tell you "oh its not your business, you don't know their pet" No, you don't need to know a pet to recognize that its family, that it deserves a home where its taken care of as it needs to. I struggle to see puppy from puppy mills or animals with disabilities often get euthanized because they have no support system. A pet doesn't know any better, they need people that give them voices since they cannot speak for themselves. I love animals and wish for all their safety. It breaks my heart to hear that many people abuse animals around the world. How could they do that it's inhuman the animals did not deserve that type of treatment. I honestly could care less about the scholarship although I need it but what matters are the animals. Someday ill be a billionaire and donate to all those shelters that are taking care of animals. They are giving touse animals a chance food water a good clean environment (well most of them since some don't have the funds although they try hard). I've been taking care of stray feral cats some have even gotten used to me and my family and lets us get close although no touching. They live outside but I give them a stable water a food source. They also have many shady places to keep cool and dry also when the cold time comes we give them blankets they can huddle in. (even if it doesn't get too cold in this part of Houston). We don't have much money but we always end up saving 20-30 dollars for the cat's monthly food expenses. They all seem to enjoy it. I really love all these cats and any animal that I find. Sometimes my parents tell me I love animals too much since I keep saving squirrels birds and mice from getting eaten by the cats but like who wouldn't? They are all so cute even the frogs that come by on rainy days. I just hope people realize or we bring justice to those people that abuse animals.

I applied for this scholarship because along with being an opportunity to win college money, it’s also a chance for me to voice my opinions about something that I am passionate about and that is being affected negatively more and more every day. I know this scholarship and what I say in it might have little to absolutely zero impact for the well-being of animals, but any kind of activism doesn’t start with immediate change—it starts with opinions, then ideas, then thoughts, then words.

A year ago, my native country was lashed out on because a Kurdish man smashed a birthday cake on his lion. As a Kurd living in America, my disappointment along with so many others was the nurse of wisdom. Animals can’t voice their defense, but humans can. That’s why it’s our duty to provide protection for all the creatures who can’t talk back. That is my belief, and that’s my reasoning of applying.

I have been an animal advocate for many years. I feed homeless cats at various shopping centers throughout the community. As a HS senior, this award would help me significantly in paying some room and board costs at the university.

Ever since I was young I would be in amazement with animals and always wanna be around them.I am fascinated with animals and everything up to their nature. I want to do something more for them. Living in a world, especially as a young individual, hate and abuse influences our actions and can lead to something even worse in the future. With animal abuse and political scandals, our future is at stake and maybe there won’t even be one. In order to decrease the probability of this happening, we need to work together to create a safe, living environment. We need to help each other because without it, there is nothing and hate will continue to pollute our world.

If I won this scholarship, it would help me so much. If I got this scholarship, I wouldn't need to have to ask my parents for a lot of money because they are already helping pay for my brother's college, and I don't want them to have to pay for me too. I would feel so horrible taking money from them. I love helping others, and I love saving and caring for animals. I want to do so many good things in life, but I NEED to first get through all of college, which means that I need money, and winning this scholarship would just be really helpful.

I am going to apply for this scholarship not for the sake of earning money, but to express how I feel about animals and how their existence is affecting each environment significantly. I have been a vegetarian for over 2 years and after years of research I am able to fully give my perspective on the need for animal care and manifest the importance of understanding that animals are very much like humans and should be treated with proper care and effort.

We live in a world where animal abuse exists and I cannot tolerate that. Animals have a voice too and they deserve the be treated with respect and care just as humans are. I applied for this scholarship because I believe that all animals deserve to be treated with importance just as a newborn baby in a human family would be. I was reading the comments below and I couldn't stop smiling. All of us together, standing up together to protest for animal rights will bring a huge change for the future.

Animals have always had a soft spot in my heart since I was a baby, I remember saying I wanted to be a veterinarian since I could talk. I applied for this scholarship because not only do I love animals, but their importance is just as important as any living creature on earth. The standards of animal welfare have dropped tremendously. Every year more then 22,000 animals are put up for adoption each year, which is horrible. I hope there to be a good future for our furry friends, so I hope to see a dramatic incline in the population of our animal welfare.

I applied for this scholarship because I truly have a strong passion for animals and the protection of animals needs great improvement. In the times we live in now, animals get ill treatment and animals my mother saw as a child I no longer see as much if at all. "Cruelty free" on the bottle of products shouldn't even be an issue we shouldn't be testing on animals at all if we don't know the effects period. Though these loving creatures don't have a voice, I will stand up and speak for them and that is a promise.

This is a phenomenal scholarship opportunity. Animal abuse and criticize is a major problem, especially in today's generation. Animals bring happiness and compassion into people's hearts. For myself to have the passion for animals, I would love more than anything to do for God's creations. Ever since I was young, all I wanted was to learn about animals and to this day I still study them. During my studies, I have seen countless records and videos of animals being abused, killed, murdered for no reason. This is something that needs to be addressed and told by the people. The animals may not have a voice but we can give them one by telling the people what wrong is coming upon them and help protect the animals.
