  • Scholarship Description
  • Finding and hiring talented copy editors has always been challenging, but a world hungry for information needs copy editors more than ever. To help meet that need, the American Copy Editors Society has awarded scholarships to deserving students since 1999. The scholarships are open to college juniors, seniors and graduate students who have demonstrated an interest in and aptitude for copy editing jobs or internships.

    The following must be emailed to the scholarship committee:
    1. An original essay, written by you, on the aspects of copy editing most important in a multi-media world. Do not exceed 500 words.
    2. Your résumé
    3. The names and contact information for three references (supervisors and/or faculty members)
    4. Either (not both) of the following:
    (a) Six headlines or tweets, or a mix thereof, that you have written. Include context, such as the first part of the material that you summarized with the headlines and/or tweets
    (b) Your answer to the exercise posted on the scholarship webpage
