  • Scholarship Description
  • John Fischetti was a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist whose work for many years graced the pages of the New York Herald Tribune, the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times. He was also a man whose enthusiasm for life and generosity of spirit won him many friends.

    Eligibility:
    -Must be male students of full Italian ancestry or who are 50% Italian ancestry
    -Must be either an undergraduate in journalism or communication or a college student who has been accepted into college with the intent of establishing a major in journalism or media communications
    -Must be a resident of the Chicago Metropolitan area

    All applicants must submit a typewritten essay of 500 words on any of the following topics:
    1. What does being an Italian American mean to you?
    2. How do you feel about the way Italian-Americans are portrayed in movies and television?
    3. What contribution have Italians (ancient or modern) made to the world?
    4. What contributions have Italian Americans made to the United States?
