  • Scholarship Description
  • The Valley Humanities Review is currently seeking essays in the humanities - including literature, film, art, history, religion, or philosophy - written by current high school students that demonstrate high quality, intellectual rigor, and originality. The winner will receive a $500 prize and publication in the spring issue.

    The goal with all our projects is to encourage a culture of undergraduate research at our college and in the wider academic community, where excellent undergraduate work can attain a wider audience and appreciation, inspiring students to greater application and imagination in their fields.

    All submissions should adhere to the Chicago style in formatting, footnoting and bibliography. Essays should be between 2,500-6,000 words in length, be free of errors and have an original title. Only one (1) essay per student. All contest submissions should be emailed as a Word document attachment. Please list the title of the contest to which you are submitting in the subject line of your email. All contest entries should be free of any identifying marks such as names, addresses, or high school affiliations. Please give contact information, including name, address, and high school, in the body of your email.

Midway through his "It's OK to be White" speech at the University of Connecticut, Conservative commentator Lucian Wintrich was arrested and charged with attempted larceny and disorderly conduct after he grabbed a woman who had swiped his notes off his lectern. The charges have since been dropped and in a reversal, the woman was arrested and charged with attempted larceny and disorderly conduct.
