The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum (a partner of the Morris County Park Commission) awards scholarships annually to honor the memory of Dr. Benjamin C. Blackburn, a professor of Botany at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and a well-known writer in his field. One or more County College of Morris students, enrolled in the Department of Landscape and Horticulture Technology will be chosen to receive the scholarship. Applicants must be New Jersey residents with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
The Blackburn Scholarship was established by the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum (Friends) in 1979 to honor the memory of the late Dr. Benjamin C. Blackburn, whose professional horticultural expertise and support was of great help to the Arboretum and the Friends during their early years. This scholarship is funded by the Friends’ Blackburn Scholarship Event held in early February. Scholarships are administered by the Board of Trustees of the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum with payment of the scholarships made directly to County College of Morris to be applied toward student tuition.
