The Eleanor Wegg Poetry Scholarship will grant three annual awards. Two awards will be in the amount of $500 and one will be in the amount of $1000. You may apply for this scholarship if you are a rising junior or senior undergraduate at one of the University of Michigan campuses with a major in the English Department. Applications are due January 1. Poems must be 20 lines or fewer (title and spaces between stanzas do not count), the sole work of the entrant and not professionally published (defined as published in a manner that the author received significant monetary compensation).
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, imagery, artistic quality, and mastery of poetic expression. There are no theme or style requirements. It is our desire to find poets who are passionate about the subject matter about which they are writing. Please include a cover letter telling us about yourself and your inspiration for the submitted poem. Please also include an unofficial transcript from the University. Please include all contact information as well as your University of Michigan email address.
