  • Scholarship Description
  • The Conservatory awards scholarships on the basis of musical ability, financial need and the musical needs of the school. Scholarship awards and tuition do not increase proportionally. Scholarships are available to full-time students in the Music Diploma program, the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree programs, the Artist Certificate program, the Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance and the Professional Studies Diploma. To qualify, undergraduate students must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA and graduate students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA. All students must remain full-time in order to receive their scholarship. For continuing students, annual juries and the quality of orchestra and/or ensemble participation are used to determine eligibility for continuation of awards. Scholarship retention depends on the successful fulfillment of all obligations to the Conservatory, including orchestra, ensemble assignments, required GPA and satisfactory academic progress. Awards for an additional year are not guaranteed. If a student feels the need for an additional semester or year to complete their degree, the student may petition the scholarship committee. NC Senator Proposes Taxing of Athletic Scholarships

In response to the NCAA's vote to allow athletes to profit from their names, images and likeness, Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina has proposed taxing those scholarships. Senator Burr tweeted: "If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income. I'll be introducing legislation that subjects scholarships given to athletes who choose to 'cash in' to income taxes." [...]
