Anaya Realin  on 12/10/2020 12:36:40 PM

Dear Fellow Scholarship Members, My name is Anaya Atalig Realin, and I am an undergraduate student at Southern Adventist University. My family comes from both the Northern Mariana Islands and the Philipines. My mother was born in Saipan, CNMI, and is from Rota, CNMI, and my father was born in the Philipines. Likewise, I am half Chamorro and half Filipino. I applied for this scholarship because neither I nor my family has the financial means to help me continue with my schooling. My mother and father do not make much money because my mother has not been able to find work, especially from the pandemic, and my father is the only one who is working and is struggling to pay debts from schooling and finances. I am trying to find ways to help with the tuition for my college because I am trying to pursue a career in the medical field and psychology because I value both the mental and physical well-being of a person. I want to make this possible through any help, and I plan to make my work count by continuing to work with people. Sincerely, Anaya Atalig Realin

Breanna M.  on 11/23/2020 2:06:05 PM

Hello, I am Breanna Michener, and I am a freshman at Clemson University pursuing a BSN in Nursing. I am a Vietnamese female living in the United States as a citizen. My mother immigrated from Vietnam during the Vietnam war because my grandfather, who has recently passed, worked for the U.S. Embassy over in Saigon which is now Ho Chi Minh City. He was able to obtain a Visa to relocate his family from the boiling communist atmosphere of Vietnam to the freedom lands of America. My mother and her family faced many hardships throughout their new life in the United States. They had to move from military camp to military camp until they finally settled in South Carolina. She faced much adversity in her new life with fellow peers bullying her for being Asian and mocking her looks and accent. Similar to her, I, too, faced adversity. Students at my elementary, middle, and high school would tease me for my looks and place typical Asian stereotypes on me. However, I did not let the adversity stop me from pursuing my dreams to become a Nurse Anesthetist. I studied and worked hard throughout high school and finished 12th in a class of 570 students with a 5.19 GPA. I ran Varsity track throughout high school and played lacrosse while, also, working at a Chinese takeout restaurant. The recent passing of my grandfather from unknown causes and the adversity my family and I have faced, has influenced me to pursue a career in the medical field because I do not want patients feeling hopeless and helpless as I sometimes did. I want to help heal and guide them to allow them to live a long and happy life, full of bright memories with their family and friends. By becoming an Asian-American in the medical field, I will not only be able to do that, but I will, also, prove societal gender and ethnic roles and standards wrong. I want to honor my family's legacy and ethnic background by becoming the first to enter the medical field in my family and be a role model for other female Asian-Americans

My name is Sadie Paterson and I am a freshman in high school in the state of Oregon. I am Chinese and was born in China. I was adopted by m parents and brought to the US. I am applying for this scholarship because as 1 of 4 children in my household, I want to make it as easy as possible for my parents to help support me in my financial needs. My brother attends a college here and I've seen first had on how much stress paying for college puts on the student and my parents. I'm hoping that if I earn this scholarship, I can take some stress off of my parents and use this as a way to thank my parents for everything that they do for me.

Maylin Reyes  on 11/6/2020 2:07:10 PM

My name is Maylin Reyes, I am currently 17 and I am a Senior. I am Mexican-Filipino Student at Vallejo High in Vallejo CA. I am a well season athlete as I participate in various martial arts as I currently hold a State and National title in Judo, as well as a Bronze Medalist in the Junior Olympics. I am also a State Qualifier in the NCS/OS Section in Wrestling. I've been training all my life and it made me opportunities that I would never imagine that would happen to me. Although I am an athlete, it doesn't mean that I'm not a student neither. I currently hold a 4.0GPA through independent studies and I've been holding my GPA since I transferred. I've been through various struggles in my life, one of them which had caused me to lose my vision and resulting in a detached retina. I underwent 3 surgeries which took a toll on me mentally, physically, and academically. I missed most of my sophomore year and even my wrestling season. But never has it made it to where I would give up on my career altogether, after I transferred to Vallejo high I had maintained a 4.0 GPA, I Made a comeback in my wrestling career being the only girl in varsity and captain. I made it all the way to state and even started to get college recognization. The reason why I'm Applying for this scholarship is to help me achieve more of my goals and to make a bigger name for myself and be the first person in my family to graduate College. I was never a big name, live a lavish life, had the training facility, I worked for everything that I have now. And with this scholarship helping me out, then it'll be one step easier into achieving my goal and my lifelong dream.

Batoul Al-Zoubi  on 11/4/2020 9:25:17 AM

Hi i'm Batoul Al-zoubi. im a junior in Athensdrive high school but I'm graduating a year early. i am in need for scholarships as my family isn't very financially stable. though I had never let our circumstance affect my education and performance in school. i am a muslim woman who has been in a private islamic school since elementary and going to a pubic high school was an extreme cultural shock to me.even hough there are such amazing openminded people at my new school. I had still dealt with biasness, discrimination and much more. However I am not just a victim. These experiences have taught me that I am able to use my skills, voice, and courage to advocate for all people and for justice. I have built up the courage to fight and denounce injustice so that no one else has to face it. I realized as minorities, we tend to be looked down upon, often pushed to the corner, and expected to watch while the privileged or ignorant walk all over us. Due to this, I began putting myself out there to bring diversity to events as I plan to do the same at my future university if given my financial needs. For example, I became the first Muslim girl in many years to join our school track team. I share my stories of injustice to spread awareness. I started taking leadership positions in service and community clubs, holding food drives and fundraisers, and educating my peers about justice on my social media platforms. By showing the best of myself, I have become known around the school as a person who has challenged biases and stereotypes against Muslims. I plan on doing the same and much more if given the opportunity to receive this generous scholarship

Currently, I am a 3rd year student taking Bachelor of Science i Business Administration Major in Human Resource Management. I believe I deserve to be selected for one of your program’s scholarships because I am a hard-working student and I will commit myself to effectively take advantage of the opportunity that the scholarships will provide me. Miya S.  on 10/28/2020 12:01:40 AM

Hello! My name is Miya Sylva, I currently attend the University of Nevada Reno and I am majoring in veterinary science. My family and I live on the Island of Maui; my father is hawaiian/portugese and my mother is japanese/chinese/hawaiian. I believe that applying to this scholarship will allow me the opportunity to continue on wit my college education. By applying to this, it will be of an advantage to both me and my family due to the high cost of my tuition, which is $13,000+. My parents have been in financial struggle for a great while and I believe that with this tuition, it will help pay off my expenses and lessen the stress on my parents. As a first generation student, I haven't yet been familiarized with the way higher ed works along with unfamiliarity of what college actually really is. During this pandemic, I haven't been allowed to apply for any jobs, which would have been my source of income, but due to unprecedented times, I am unable to pay for my tuition in anyway, except for the student loans that are being used to help pay.

I want to be part of UOL, and I want help to push my desire in the right way. From my age 8, I was working part-time like selling toys in the platform, worked in a juice shop, for food catering, app promotion till now working to manage my basic essence. Every day improving my skills, learning anything that helps for my future. In my 10th grade, I Got 84% overall and In my High school I got 78% and then I chose to do My bachelor's in Mechatronics Engineering at Bharath Institute Of Higher Education And Research. Alisha Mauga  on 8/4/2020 4:28:53 PM

Dear Scholarship Program, My name is Alisha Mauga, I am applying for this scholarship hoping to feel successful on being financially stable for school. I am 18, currently graduated from Legacy High School located in North Las Vegas. I moved here in between my senior year from Richmond, California, from that I experienced major difficulties in school, as well as my hope of graduating. However, once I moved, I lost all my scholarships which included grant that suppose to pay off all four years of college. I come from a family of struggle, two parents and 11 siblings that contain my heart to the fullest. Only one of my siblings were able to make it to college but did not get to graduate, based off of being financially unstable to pay off school so he continued to work. I come from a low income family which has brought many difficulties within my years of living, which has brought me on pushing myself inside and outside of school. I personally, struggled with school for many years which has led me into being the best version of myself. I was able to overcome those stages of doubt and depression into being a close straight A student based off of my grades within my freshman year up to my senior year. Until I moved, I managed to keep my grades up, yet it wasn't enough. Throughout my hard work and dedication towards my education, It was not given to me. I was Devasated, being both races Samoan and Tongan has been a huge inspiration yet a struggle coming from a big family. However, I was able to graduate with a good GPA following with a great experience of maturity and a grateful heart. I am also an undergraduate of University of San Francisco which is my dream school since I was in middle school. I will be majoring in Criminal Justice to overcome police brutality and racial problems which has been a major focus to me and hoping I could be that step of change. I hope to become a part of change within my community, my family, and for those who I love dearly. Thank you f

Isela L.  on 7/26/2020 1:07:41 AM

My name Isela Liulamaga my friends call me Bella. I am a freshman at Bellevue Community College. I am quarter Native American, quarter Mexican, and half Samoan, I will be majoring in History to become an Archaeologist, filling out this application, and other scholarships knowing I might not win but its important to face head on in failure that's part of I've grown up. Looking back and describing my life I see all the ways in which I am disadvantaged due to my socioeconomic status. But I think it's important to note that none of us were fully aware of anything growing up. I knew that my parents couldn't buy me everything because they had to support my other six siblings, my grandma, my 2 older brothers, and my uncle when they needed help. Right in that moment I made a commitment to my family to contribute financially in whatever way I could because your family will always be there for the ups and downs, so every once a month I would pitch in some money for the house bills. My sacrifice translated to a closer bond with my siblings and being the importance of being a good influence to them it's helped me understand the true meaning of a unified family and the valuable part I play in this.

Mallory S.  on 7/22/2020 9:36:18 AM

My name is Mallory Saluone. I was born in the United States to a Samoan dad and Caucasian mom. My family has always valued education, sending my Grandpa from Samoa to the states in order for him to be able to receive an education and raise his children to obtain one as well. After my dad graduated from BYU with a degree in Engineering, I wanted to follow in his footsteps and receive an education as well. I am attending Utah Valley University, majoring in Art and Design. I want to become an Animator so that I can share the culture and stories of my Island Heritage. I have always been proud of where my family came from, whether it be Samoa or the United States and Europe. Receiving this scholarship would help me further my education and encourage me to work harder for myself and my ancestors. Thank you for this opportunity.

EM  on 7/17/2020 3:44:04 PM

Hi, I just moved here from Manila Philippines with my mom and my little brother after being granted our immigrant visa. I am now in highschool will graduate 2021. I want to be able to go to a university and pursue my dream in becoming a civil rights lawyer. My mom is a single parent with no child support and although it looks like impossible to be able to get to a university with our current financial situation, I am hopeful that I will be given the opportunity to get a scholarship program for I am determined not only to get a degree and get a good job but I want to help the community. It has been hard moving from a country where I grew up to a whole new different environment but it should not be a hindrance to get education neither is your current financial status.

Quezy May V.  on 7/10/2020 11:34:44 PM

Hi! My name is Quezy Villagonzalo I am a Filipino and I do believe that this scholarship will really help me a lot because my mom does not have a stable income or job and she's the only one who continued to raise us without my father cause he is already in heaven. I really want to pursue my dream to be a Psychologist. And since my brother was not able to finish his degree, I want to be the one who will finish my studies for my mom who is really striving hard to earn money just by selling any kind of products wherein the income is not that stable and it does really need a lot of hard work in order to earn. But that earning, is not sustainable enough to provide our needs as well as my tuition fees in school. Right now, we are in no work, no pay due to the crisis and school will start soon and I still have an outstanding balance that should be paid for me to proceed to 2nd yr college. I would love and I do hope to receive this scholarship. If ever I do so, I would really study hard and give back what my mom deserves. I will continue to pursue my dream with the help of this scholarship. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Thank you so much and God Speed!

Tyrone T  on 5/28/2020 3:13:57 PM

Talofa. I'm Tyrone Taleni and I'm Samoan. I grew up in Samoa my whole life, and just recently moved to California two years ago in pursue of a college education. I made a huge move with a big risk of not being able to support myself and my schooling, considering how less fortunate my family is back in Samoa in terms of finance. Our family lives off the land, and I knew we could not afford to do that for the rest of our lives in order to provide for all our necessities. I've always known that education provides better means to be successful in many ways in life, and it has always been a dream of mine as well to attain a higher education and become a doctor one day to serve the general population, especially my Pacific Islander community that lacks access to proper medical care. Being able to win this scholarship will not only accomplish my dreams, but more importantly, it will put me in the best position to help serve my people and community, and administer to their needs. Helping and serving my people is the motive behind my determination to be successful in life.

Kahiau H  on 5/22/2020 1:38:03 PM

I am Kahiau Haiola, most people who know me call me kai for short. I was born in Hawaii and lived there until I was ten. My mom was diagnosed with Celiac disease right before my tenth birthday and we were told we had to move somewhere dry. We currently reside in Logandale Nevada, right outside of Las Vegas. My dad is a Native Hawaiian and Chinese mix. My mom was born in Las Vegas and is not of Pacific or Asian descent. I would use this scholarship to complete paramedics Programs offered here in Las Vegas and EMT classes as well. I plan to be a Firefighter in Southern Nevada. My Parents have been stressed on money and I do not want them to see me as something that is taking more and more of theirs. Thank you for putting up this Scholarship opportunity for us.

My name is Jellalynn Seilo and I am from the small Island of Kuttu in Chuuk State (under the Federated States of Micronesia) I am applying for Asian theological seminary. I was able to graduate with my BA in biblical studies with the help of people like you. I could no longer receive help from my previous sponsors, therefore I am here seeking help from you. I am 23 years old and I still depend on my single father, however he has retired and it's been so hard. It is my desire to teach like my late mother. I also wish to be able to impact people around me especially women in my Island to see that women can also be theologians. With your help, I will accomplish this goal. With your help, I could become the first woman in my Island to receive a master and doctorate in Biblical studies. With your help, I could show that there is hope for people like me.

Harold F  on 5/8/2020 10:20:22 AM

My name is Harold Fernandez, and I'm a high school graduate. I have been out of high school for 2 years, interning at a summer camp ministry in Kentucky. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 and was president of Key Club. I was involved in sports throughout all of school, such as, basketball, track, XC and marching band. My interest and hobbies include, fishing, hiking, biking and aviation. (aviation is the reason i am writing this). I'm working as an intern, doing guests relations, programming and along many other tedious jobs at Crossings Ministries. My parents both hold factory jobs, not making the amount of money I need to further my passion in aviation at a more reasonable pace amongst peers.

Hello, My name is Nhu Nguyen. I came to the U.S. in 2019. I am an international student from a countryside of Vietnam. The main reason I chose U.S. to study is my family's political background. Moreover, I am the first college generation of my family. Therefore, I am looking for a scholarship to help me reach my goal. I am majoring in Business Administration at Century College. My dream is running a chain store of Banh Mi, traditional food of Vietnamese, because of its convenience and affordability. Getting this scholarship would be a great honor to me and my family. It is also a great encouragement for me to keep studying hard.

Tereise T  on 3/13/2020 12:56:35 PM

Hi, my name is Tereise Tosi. I am of American Samoa decent but also of Chinese decent. My dad is full Samoan. He was born in American Samoa and came to live here when he was about 20. He had been to the US before but it was only for a visit. When he met my mother, they had me, and my dad decided to leave his home so that he could be with my mother to help raise me. My mother is Samoan as well but was born here in Orange County, California. She has 6 siblings and growing up they moved a lot as well. They even lived in American Samoa for sometime. My mom is also of Chinese decent. Her father, my grandfather was born from a Chinese family, but adopted and raised from a Samoan family. My family and I associate more with our Samoan side because we are. Although I've always wanted to see and learn more about my Chinese family. I am applying for this scholarship because my parents need help financially. I have verbally committed to play softball at Cal State San Bernardino but it's still going to be too much for my parents out of pocket. My parents have done everything for me. My only goal in life is to make sure they don't have to worry about me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please consider me for this scholarship. Have a blessed rest of your day.

Ever since I was little I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse and help people. This scholarship would really help me fulfill my dream.

Currently a high school senior class of 2020. Having been diagnosed with a neurological disorder (TS), I anticipate with hope to receive a scholarship that not lifts up the burden of personal finances for my family but to allow myself the focus on pursuing a career in finding a cure through the studies of Neuroscience. My goal is to one day find a better cure/solution to those that are affected by Neurological diseases especially mine as there is no cure currently.
