  • Scholarship Description
  • Quaker Fellows echoes Earlham's core values. Utilizing Quaker faith and practice, the program engages the whole person and prepares students to be agents of change in the world. Quaker Fellows includes three formation cores: spirituality, community, and leadership development. The program is designed for young adults who are serious about serving as leaders in their communities, developing tools for social transformation, and living a life grounded in the Spirit. Quaker Fellows requires a time commitment of approximately 6 hours per week of programming and is available to qualified Quaker students for the duration of their time at Earlham (with required re-enrollment each year based on academic standing).

    Applicants must have active involvement in the Society of Friends (Quakers), familiarity with Quakerism and resonance with Quaker faith and practice and positive attitude, flexibility, and commitment to group process. Must be welcoming of cross-cultural and inter-religious dialogue, openness and commitment to talking about and exploring spiritual growth and respect for differing viewpoints and backgrounds as well as the ability to work intensely with a small group of peers. Should This Factor Be Considered in College Admissions Decisions?

Almost three-fourths of people surveyed by the Pew Research Center are against consideration of race when it comes to college admissions decisions. Only 7 percent believe it should be a major factor and 19 percent say it should be a minor factor. These views were reportedly shared by "solid majorities of white, black, Latino and Asian Americans."

In 2016, after the Supreme Court affirmed the right of colleges to consider race in admissions, a Gallup poll indicated that approximately two-thirds of the public disagreed with the Supreme Court. Only 9 percent believed that race should be a major factor in admissions decisions, and 27 percent said it should be considered a minor factor. The survey did not end there. [...]
