Linda Q. Smith Chess Scholarship
This scholarship was instituted in June of 2004 in conjunction with the Riverside Youth Chess Association to honor the retirement of Linda Q. Smith, a teacher and chess coach at Sierra Middle School. One or two scholarships, totaling $1,000, will be awarded this spring. These scholarships benefit graduating high school seniors currently residing in Riverside or San Bernardino counties who will be attending a California public college or university in the fall.
The scholarships will be awarded to applicants with the highest United States Chess Federation rating and/or who, in the opinion of our Scholarship Committee, has made the most significant contribution to the game of chess. Additionally, the Scholarship Committee may consider the financial need, or other special circumstances of the applicant.
To request an application, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, noting "Smith Scholarship Application Request" as the subject, and an application will be emailed to you in reply.
Completed applications will be accepted by mail only. Completed application must be postmarked by March 30th. Interviews will be scheduled for mid-May and applicants will be notified of their application status by mail.
We look forward to reviewing all of the applications, however, interviews will be scheduled only for selected candidates.
