Scholarship Description

The Northwestern University Scholarship (composed of two awards) is awarded to approximately 45% of undergrads each year and is generally the final component of an aid package, meeting any remaining need after other forms of aid have been applied. The NU Appropriated Scholarship is based on demonstrated institutional financial need and availability of funding at the time the student applies. Students who apply for aid will automatically be considered for all forms of aid listed below. Program and eligibility requirements are subject to revision based on federal, state, and university changes to regulations and policies. Financial aid from the university is limited to four years of enrollment for an entering first-year student and three years of enrollment for an entering transfer student. Students who are eligible for the NU Scholarship will be considered for a variety of endowed scholarships if they also meet the donors' other selection criteria.

Northwestern is deeply committed to making an education possible for students from all financial backgrounds. Its review process is need-blind for all first-year applicants who are U.S. citizens and permanent residents as well as undocumented students at U.S. high schools, which means it evaluates applications without regard to a student’s ability to pay the cost of tuition. Our financial aid is need-based, and it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students. To further increase college access and success, Northwestern awards loan-free financial aid packages to all families who qualify for need-based aid. Northwestern utilizes a formula for calculating financial aid packages based on the family's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) grant aid, state and federal grants (like SEOG and Pell), and private scholarships earned by our students.
