  • Scholarship Description
  • Create an original work showcasing your idea for a solution or strategy to fix the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving! Car crashes are the #1 killer of young people in America, and the majority are preventable. Enter your innovative and effective solutions and strategies to end the deadly epidemic of reckless and distracted driving in one of the four categories- writing, art, music, or video. Entries are accepted in English and Spanish. There are a total of 9 awards, ranging from $500 to $1500.

    Contest is open to students aged 14 - 22 who are enrolled in accredited high schools, trade schools, colleges, or universities. The focus is on solutions to reckless and distracted driving. While driving under the influence is extremely dangerous and highly illegal, entries focused on driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be accepted. As someone that is in jail I understand. In my prison most people were arrested for driving under the influence.

In my city, we have many incidents with reckless and distracted driving. Everyday, innocent lives are taken by this kind of driving. I applied for this scholarship because I want to know how can we solve these problems so less lives are taken by these drivers.

I applyed for this scholarship because I was ran over by a car by a drunk driver when I was a little girl and I want to tell people what i went through so they don't have to go through the same or put someone elses family through the same terror.

Protest at Johns Hopkins U Over Proposed Private Police Force

Student at Johns Hopkins University have staged a month-long sit-in at Garland Hall, JHU’s main administrative building, to protest the university's plans for a private police force, which was recently approved by the Maryland General Assembly. The university has had to suspend financial aid, disability, academic advising, and international services due to the protest's complete blockage. The protesting students are also demanding that JHU cancel its contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eight students even chained themselves to Garland Hall. [...]
