  • Scholarship Description
  • The FSEOG program is administered directly by the financial aid office at each participating school and is therefore called "campus-based" aid. Not all schools participate. Check with your school's financial aid office to find out if the school offers the FSEOG. To get an FSEOG, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so your college can determine how much financial need you have. Students who will receive Federal Pell Grants and have the most financial need will receive FSEOGs first. The FSEOG does not need to be repaid.

You can receive between $100 and $4,000 a year, depending on your financial need, when you apply, the amount of other aid you get, and the availability of funds at your school. Each participating school receives a certain amount of FSEOG funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid. Once the full amount of the school's FSEOG funds has been awarded to students, no more FSEOG awards can be made for that year.

If you're eligible, your school will credit your student account, pay you directly, or combine these methods. Your school must disburse (pay out) funds at least once per term (semester, trimester, or quarter). Schools that do not use semesters, trimesters, or quarters must disburse funds at least twice per academic year.

For more information, please visit Federal Student Aid's website.

I am going back to school after 22 years of being a stay at home mom. I have found that I have a gift for people and I want to commit the rest of my life to this. I am happy that you are giving me this opportunity to have success in my calling. I am a single mother now and things can get pretty tight but I know through hard work that I will be able to accomplish this goal. I love life and I am ready for success. Thank you!

Jovana F  on 6/6/2019 4:47:54 PM

Like many of these comments, I'm applying for this because I work two part time jobs and I'm still struggling to afford school. I'm on my last year to graduate with my Bachelors, but the last year is proving to be the most costly. My FAFSA is maxed out, so everything is gonna be paid with loans and out of pocket. Any help would suffice! I'm almost to my goal and the financial burden is heavy.

Milisa F  on 6/6/2019 4:14:10 PM

I am a single mother of a child with ASD,TS and MD. I have one class left to receive my bachelors degree in Education. I ran out of funding. I work part time because he needs 24/7 care. I just need to finish.

Hi there! well like all whove commented, I too am in a tight spot with finances and am seeking help to help me to succeed and build my future for my 3 kids and i. I was recently in a abusive relationship and due to the circumstances, I have left his residence and my kids and i are sleeping on families floor until i can get us picked back up so we are okay. We dont have a place to call home at this moment and honestly the pressure gets to me and i often have been asking myself if i should even be trying for collage. With that said, i refuse to give up ive put much time into catching up what i was behind in class after being in the hospital for a week. I hope for the best and look forward to hearing back. Thank you so much!!!!!

Applied to help me pay for college. Still have out of pocket cost.

Stefanie L  on 6/3/2019 2:40:58 PM

I am applying for the scholarship because I am only a few classes away from graduation and I found out that all of my student loans are maxed out. I have $10,000 worth of Education that I have to pay for out-of-pocket right now or I am not allowed to graduate. I previously was enrolled in another online school and they shut down six months away from graduation now I am not able to finish with my bachelor's this time because I can't afford the $10,000 I'm in desperate need of this scholarship.

Sara F  on 5/30/2019 10:03:38 AM

I am looking toward my future. I'm tired of working dead end jobs and not getting anywhere. I want to go back to school and continue my education. I made a mistake several years ago when i quit school and got married. I gave up a lot of scholarships. Now I want to continue my education and follow in my mothers footsteps and be a Nurse. I need assistance to go back to school. I cannot afford to go without some help as all of our money goes toward living expenses. Please help me.

Kira L  on 5/29/2019 5:01:14 PM

I am applying for this scholarship to further my education. This last year in school hasn’t been easy on me, considering i was involuntarily hospitalized in August of 2018 and i can’t keep applying for loans

Chalandra T  on 5/26/2019 8:05:32 AM

I applied because any POSSIBLE opportunity there is we ALL should seek it! Good luck to anyone taking ALL initiatives to be great!!!

Ja'Nia C  on 5/23/2019 10:26:32 AM

I am applying for this scholarship because I want to further my education. My family does not have the funds to continue my education, even though they try to scrape every penny they can to help me get my education. This scholarship would help alot.

Andre T  on 5/21/2019 6:57:23 PM

I am applying for this loan because I am a young father who pays child support and cannot afford money to complete my degree. Currently, I only have 19 credits to get my Bachelors in Mass Communications, which would increase my pay and give me a chance to get a better job. At the time I dropped out of school in 2014, my father were gravely ill and died. My focus on school was meaningless, as I was mourning the death of my father. I only want to be the best father to my child, and the son my father would want me to be.

Desiree S  on 5/21/2019 6:35:00 PM

I am applying because i need more money to cover books, room and board, and food.

Genevieve H  on 5/17/2019 12:54:11 PM

I am applying because the Federal Loan fund will not be suffice to cover my tuition, books and boarding. It is really hard to find a job these days without some form of graduate education, and Virginia Commonwealth University is the institution that fits different careers that I am considering. Some students have a specific career in mind when applying for colleges, but many have little idea of the specific career they would like to pursue when graduated. Right now, I consider either a career in psychology or dentistry. To help me to make up my mind, I decide to double major in dental and psychology so that both options remain open. I hope that by deepening the two topics, I will understand what really interests me and where I can see myself in the future

Jenna H  on 5/9/2019 9:29:31 AM

I am applying because I am paying out of pocket for about 9,000 dollars of what will be not covered by grants. I am a single mother of two I work full time and am doing online school for my BSHA. I want to show my girls if you work hard you will have something to show for it.

Lynda R  on 5/8/2019 8:31:40 PM

I applied because I want to finish my degree. Its hard to pay tuition out of pocket with a family to take care of.

Nicole S  on 5/7/2019 9:16:10 AM

I'm amazed by all of the people treating the comment section as an application.

Nariyah S  on 5/6/2019 8:29:13 AM

Yes I qualified for this!

Kimberly B  on 5/3/2019 8:19:56 AM

I have already filled out my FAFSA and have a son who is a sophomore in college as well. I do not have enough loan money to cover my tuition and books. I work full time and go to school year round to complete my degree. Once I finish this bachelors, I plan on entering the accelerated nursing program to obtain my BSN in that as well.

Mary C  on 1/23/2019 10:28:02 AM

I applied to help with cost of school. I struggle pay check to pay check and trying to take care of disabled parents. I am a nurse and work atleast full time while trying to do my classes online. I have a house that seriously needs repaired and so I am working hard to get that job I've always wanted and be able to pay my bills. Just need a little help. Thank you

rodney c  on 12/10/2018 6:21:03 PM

Hello I am a third year student at Walden University. I learned that my financial awards this time around isn't enough to cover my tuition or to pay for books and the things I need to complete my education. I am currently on medical disability and would like to finish my education so that I can return to the life I use to live and be self sufficient,

Carrie S  on 11/30/2018 1:08:17 PM

I was informed that my school must apply for this grant for me. What do I do if the school I attend will not assist me with any other grants or scholarships and do not provide not even one single scholarship for their out of state students or maybe it is just me that they will not help. I'm already almost done with my first semester and I'm praying that I only have one more left. It is overwhelming going to school where no one gives any form of student support.

Julio C  on 9/7/2018 10:39:32 AM

I applied for this scholarship to pursue my dream career and no matter the case i will never give up on my dream job. I've seen how hard my parents struggle will bills because of education in mexico. The highest grade was 6th grade then after that just hard work. They came to the U.S. looking for a better life but it isn't easily but both of my parents are legal here in the U.S. So that made me realize that i want to get a good job and give my children what my parents struggled to give me.

Kasmere S  on 8/29/2018 8:52:26 PM

Hello, I have applied however the cost does not cover the full tuition. I am a single mother working full-time, minimum wage. I pay cash for everything and I would just like some funds so that I may graduate in the spring and get a career opportunity to help put my children through college also. It is sad this is my senior year for my bachelors degree and there is no one that can help guide me or give me the resources to continue my education. In the midst of the hardships that I have faced that seem insurmountable, I know its just another obstacle that I will soon overcome by keeping a positive attitude and the continuation to strive instead of survive my current situation.

Boaz A  on 8/21/2018 4:01:51 PM

Hi, Yes I just applied. I am a freshman getting ready to Move In this week, but just got my financial aid update and I have to cover the rest. Hence my need to obtain a grant or scholarship to help pay my costs. My parents are not able to have funds to cover the rest.

Sherri H  on 6/22/2018 11:14:04 PM

I attended Everest University which was later changed to Alterius University last year. I was able to receive the FSEOG grant while I was there with no problems. With no warning, and to be completely honest, it was almost like the rug had been ripped out from under us as students; those of us that did qualify for this grant lost it because we were forced, not asked to change schools. Then, at the beginning of this year, 2018 I spoke to the financial advisor again myself, asking why I wasn't receiving this grant? My financial circumstances hadn't changed....She let me know that they were issued in July. I brushed that off again. Well, I know it's not July yet but you can see that others are being given their grants coming up in July....So, once again I called and questioned. This time I was told it was on a first time first term basis...I'm thinking to myself really....I just spoke to this lately in January....how much earlier could I have been? For the most part, I have no issues with this school. But, the financial aid section needs to be on the same page when it comes to what they are and are not giving out.....

Eddiemarie M  on 5/15/2018 3:59:21 PM

Hi, My name is Eddiemarie Molina. I am a single mother living in Puerto Rico. I would like to live in this island but the economy is killing the medium and low class workers. I need to obtain a degree for me and to be an example for my kids. I tried going back to college but the availability of courses during the night is limited. Online courses are not available in the most accredited colleges. Everyday this opportunities disappear with the mass migration of Puerto Rico leaving he Island due to the economy struggle. I just need an opportunity to continue without getting too much in debt.

De'Ja G  on 5/14/2018 5:36:28 PM

In the 4th grade, I was considered your average 11-year-old. I loved Reading circle time, watching historical documentaries, and cookies. I had a huge crush on a family friend’s son, goofed around in class, and my friends and I aspired to be more like the Cheetah Girls. What made me so different you ask? My love for all things materials science. Now technically I didn't know what I was doing related to materials science until around 6th grade when I was first introduced to the branch but nonetheless, I loved it. I remember distinctly my first urge to innovate an oh-so-common substance in the classroom… white glue. That day our desks were arranged in a circle and I was luckily assigned next to my best friend at the time(who was also interested in mixing up different things to create another) so we obviously were off task. Bored with our teacher's assignment, we decided to trail off the path and see what we could make ourselves using craft items. Luckily I already had an idea brewing up as I attempted to remove the sticky black ink from a pen and possibly mix it in with some glue. Long story short I ended up staining my hands, my pants, and my teacher liked it so much she created a comparative lab for it. My burning interest in Materials science has always been present in my life for as long as I can recall. And if awarded this scholarship, my dream of majoring in my beloved subject will be that much closer to reach.

Hi, I filled out a fafsa after applying, and receiving acceptance, into Full Sail University's Digital Cinematography Bachelor's of Science online program. I was not eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, and I don't know if I was able to get the FSEOG. I have been out of school for 2 years and transferred to Full Sail with the hopes of completing my Bachelor's Degree. I have aspirations to get into the film industry; I've always wanted to be a filmmaker ever since I was a kid, and I feel studying at Full Sail will help me achieve my academic goals, however the tuition will be hard to cover on my own as I'm in a financial hardship due to my unemployment at the moment. I am currently searching for a new job before I start my classes at the end of May, but I would very much like to receive financial help via scholarships and not student loans. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi my name is Vicki Nelson and I have three children. I am looking at furthering my career. I have a 20 year old, 16 year old and a 5 year old. I was going to school about three years back and then my son decided to continue his career so I put mine on hold I am looking at finishing my career as a Special Ed teacher. Working with multi-handicap students is my dream. I have been currently working as an aide in a school with multi- handicap students for the past 10 years and I would really like to share with my fellow teachers and students what I have to help them. But in order to do that I need to finish my degree and as of right now I can't because of the financial burden. If there is any way I can get a grant to help me it would greatly be appreciated because I know I can make a difference. Thank you so much and god bless.

Destiny S  on 7/17/2016 9:34:33 PM

Hi, my name is Destiny Speller and I am applying for this scholarship because it will enable me to further my education at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am from a single parent home, I live with my mother, and it is becoming harder to pay for things such as my books because the tuition is rising sadly. My mom is working extremely hard in order for me to pursue my career goals. With my degree in biology, I plan to go back to graduate and medical school to further my education in which I have decided to go into the field of neuroscience. This field has many diseases and disorders that have no cure while others appear in the human body and doctors cannot figure out what causes them. These disorders include Parkinson disease, multiple sclerosis, autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s and many more. With my degree, I plan to go into the lab and do research on why these disorders and diseases occur, especially in a healthy human body. My goal is to not only be able to figure out the causes of the disease and disorder but also be able to cure it.

Amy S  on 6/7/2016 12:29:48 AM

Hi, My Name is Amy Savage. I am a mother of three. My oldest being in college herself at ODU and my youngest two are 11 and 12, watching their mom start a new life and going back to school. I have had a life changing experience. I spent 4 years in a federal prison and it changed my life, for the better. I spent my time in prison working on myself and training service dogs for our wounded warriors. I went through an extensive drug program called RDAP as well as took some college courses. I did not wast my time in prison, I used that time to change. I am showing my children what their mom is made of and that you can succeed no matter what you go through. I have maintained a high grade point average even though it has been 30 years since I have been to school and my children have raise their own grades through watching me. I am attending Ashford University online and and seeking an associates degree in behavioral science. I want to be a substance abuse counselor. I want to lend my strength and knowledge to other addicts to show them that it is possible to rise above addiction and succeed. I believe with my experiences and a degree I can make a difference in the lives of many addicts, regardless of their addiction. I was addicted to more than drugs, I was addicted to approval and love. I now love myself and my family, and God above all else. I really want and need help to achieve my dream to help others. Addiction has overrun our country for to long and taken to many of our children. It has wasted lives and killed careers. I know I can make a difference.

Dolores T  on 2/28/2016 3:28:38 PM

Dolores Torres 2/28/2016 3:28 PM Hello, my name is Dolores Torres, and I am a retired school secretary from the San Antonio Independent School District after serving 35 years. I am pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice Administration because I would like to make a difference in our criminal justice system that is abundantly growing with unethical, corruption, and racial issues. I feel our children today are the future tomorrow, and the way they are raised at home is the start of what their life is going to become. If discipline and respect is not instilled during the parenthood then there will be consequences and this is where crime begins.

I recently learned of the scholarship offered through your organization following a free college scholarship search I conducted at Scholarships.com. I am applying for this scholarship in hopes of furthering my education as a paralegal with emphasis in a real estate and brokers license. I have reviewed your scholarship award's description and eligibility requirements, and feel strongly that I would be an excellent candidate for this scholarship. The reason I feel I would be a good candidate is because I'm interested in knowing more about the award in hopes of furthering my education as a paralegal. I would like to request an application for your scholarship and any additional information available on the program to know more about the award itself. Right now I have a high balance for the classes I am taking and am paying out of pocket for my classes due to the fact that I have had 6 surgeries in 2 years and have outstanding medical bills that has been a huge burden on me limiting my ability to pay for classes needed to become successful in the law. Please send any relevant application materials to me. Thanks Jennifer

I am 18 and I do not have a job as I am a full time college student, I do plan on working in the summer. My mother is a single parent and raised me all by herself, even when she was unemployed for a couple of years. I am going to college to become a counselor for the mentally ill and this scholarship would really help to pay some of my loan! I hope everyone had a great holiday!

LaTrice B  on 12/25/2015 9:25:49 PM

Hi my name is LaTrice and I am currently attending Kaplan University Online because I cant afford to go to school during the day due to my job being a 7-3 and I help raise my niece so I have her every afternoon. I have no regrets for helping my family, I just want to finish my degree so that I can help them even the more. I can only help them by giving my time and running errands for my mom and grandparents, but I would like to help them financially because after all, they took care of me. Its time for me to give back. I need as many scholarships as possible.

Lexi T  on 12/17/2015 11:45:14 PM

Hello, my name is Lexi. It goes without saying that college is expensive. It always goes without saying that college is a necessity! I am 23 years old and have independently taking care of myself financially since I was 17. I have been in college for four years now and have worked full time and supported myself all the way through while still being able to maintain a 3.7 GPA. I just got accepted into the Boise State School Of Nursing and couldn't be more excited. Being granted this scholarship would mean the world to me but it would also allow me to focus less how i'm going to pay for school, books and bills and focus more on becoming the best nurse I can be for the future of medicine.

I'm applying for this grant because it seems to perfectly match my status and what exactly I need to get into college and actually finish college. From the description above, I know I am eligible because of the situation I've been in for the past year. By me getting this Grant, it will literally change the present of my life and even my future.

patricia g  on 9/29/2015 1:25:07 AM

I am applying for this scholarship because I want to continue my education, I want to be able to enroll in more classes at school. At the moment I am a full time mother of three children and full time medical assistant, and part time student at school. I am the one that has to pay all of the bills around the house I have mortgage that is due at the beginning of the month. I live paycheck after paycheck and I don't have that much to spend on groceries. I live off of cheap food and I am going to school to become something better in life and to teach my children that anything is possible. I want to be a great roll model for my children. l I would love to win this scholarship because it would give me the opportunity to enroll in more classes and be able to finish my collage degree sooner to begin my career. The sooner I can finish my community college credits the sooner I can enroll into my future career.

drew p  on 9/26/2015 2:47:01 PM

I am applying for this application because my fasfa is finished after this year. I have worked extremely hard to obtain a GPA of 3.4. I will only have 2 semester of nursing BSN after this semester, and I am looking forward to helping other people in the field of nursing. My parents have worked very hard assisting me as I have excelled in my college career. I was not the best student in high school, but I have realized my goals and have worked extremely hard to be this close to my dream. My dad works at four different hospitals, and my mother teaches a night college class after teaching 9 grade math during the day. All this to make sure I have an opportunity to complete my college career. Drew Piner

Kim's right in most stated SEOG is first come first served, so the faster you fill out FAFSA the better chance you have of getting that extra bit of money

Kimberly F  on 12/11/2009 9:05:19 PM

I've done a lot of research on financial aid and scholarships. To my knowledge, you don't directly apply for the Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants. When you file your FAFSA, you're applying for all federally funded grants, such as Pell Grant, FSEOG, and in my state, Alabama Grants. Funds are limited and are pretty much first come first served. There's a March 1st priority date for filing your FAFSA and filing before the priority date would be everyone's best bet at trying to get the FSEOG, if it's available at your college.

Kali F  on 7/28/2009 7:25:17 PM

This isn't a loan and you can't get an application. You fill out the FASFA and the govt. chooses who qualifies based on your EFC (what you listed as your income). This GRANT is based on your Pell application. No one at scholarships.com has anything to do with giving you this grant. Again...it's not from your school or any other site you find, the government will let you know if you qualify.

Harvard Revokes Parkland Shooting Suvivor's Admissions Offer

June 18, 2019

by Susan Dutca-Lovell

Harvard revoked more admissions offers - this time involving 10 students who participated in a Facebook group called "Harvard memes for horny bourgeois teens." Jokes about abusing children and the Holocaust and insulting comments about different racial and ethnic groups were found in the group, according to Inside Higher Ed.

Earlier this month, Harvard also rescinded an admission offer to Kyle Kashuv who, when he was 16 years old, used inflammatory and racist language, including the N-word, right before the Parkland shooting at his school, Stoneman Douglas High School. The shootings have since "changed him and made him more mature," he claims. Kashuv became famous for his conservatism, pro-gun and pro-Trump activism which he believes, represent a different view on how to prevent future, like tragedies.

In a recent Twitter post, he apologized for his past comments and stated that, "We were 16-year-olds making idiotic comments, using callous and inflammatory language in an effort to be as extreme and shocking as possible...I'm embarrassed by it, but I want to be clear that the comments I made are not indicative of who I am or who I've become in the years since." Shortly thereafter, Harvard looked into his case and eventually revoked his admissions offer. Though university personnel appreciate his "candor and expressions of regret," Harvard "takes seriously" the "qualities of maturity" and of "character" of the students it admits. Despite appealing the revocation, Kashuv was turned down. In his defense, Kashuv argues that, "throughout its history, Harvard's faculty has included slave owners, segregationists, bigots and anti-Semites. If Harvard is suggesting that growth isn't possible and that our past defines our future, then Harvard is an inherently racist institution. But I don't believe that. I believe that institutions and people can grow. I've said that repeatedly." In your opinion, should Kashuv have had his admissions offer revoked based on something he did when he was 16? Why or why not? [...]

Wiccan Prof Sues Catholic University Over Alleged Discrimination

June 11, 2019

by Susan Dutca-Lovell

A Wiccan Professor at St. Bonaventure sued the university and her alma mater for discrimination, alleging that she was not allowed to advance in her career because she is a woman and a witch. The reported discrimination began around Halloween in 2011, after she was asked to conduct an interview about her Wiccan beliefs with the university's student TV station, SBU-TV. [...]
