Scholarship Description

Applicants must be studying an insurance-related field (e.g. Risk-Management, Actuary Science, etc.) as a full-time student at an accredited university, college, or community college in Louisiana. The award is a four-year scholarship, payable $1,000 per semester for eight consecutive semesters, for a total award of $8,000. Apart from completing the application, applicants must also submit: their most recent transcript; an ACT/SAT score report; an academic resume; a recommendation letter; and an essay of 250–500 words that explains why they are pursuing a career in the insurance industry

This scholarship was established in January 2007 by the Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation (LWCC) to honor the memory of Mr. Stephen W. Cavanaugh. Mr. Cavanaugh served as the President and CEO of LWCC until 2006. He was an extraordinary leader who made lasting contributions to the insurance industry in Louisiana. He is succeeded by Kristin W. Wall, who has served as President and CEO since Mr. Cavanaugh’s departure.
