Women's Opportunity Award (Washington, DC)

Soroptimist International of Washington, DC is seeking applicants for its recognition program targeted to young women who make the community and world a better place. The Women's Opportunity Award honors women who are working to better their lives through additional skills training and education. The award is aimed at improving the lives of women by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. The cash award may be used to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain education or training including tuition, books, childcare, transportation, etc.


As a volunteer service organization for business and professional women, Soroptimist realizes the importance of recognizing the efforts of women to improve conditions for themselves and their families.

The Women's Opportunity Award program begins at the local Soroptimist club level. Soroptimist International of Washington, DC will present a $2,000 award to the winner at SIWDC's Annual Awards Banquet in March. Club-level winners are also eligible to go on to regional and international competitions.

Founded in 1922, Soroptimist International of Washington, DC is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas. Its mission is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Washington, DC members join with almost 95,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories worldwide to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women.
