  • Generously funded by Wella's Hairdressers at Heart, the Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Education Scholarship Program - Basic honors the legacy of beauty legend Vidal Sassoon and pays homage to his belief in lifelong education. Each competition awards ten winners with 50% of their program tuition costs, covered at a qualifying AACS cosmetology school (up to $10,000). Competition rounds are held each spring and fall and are designed for prospective and newer students.

    Established in 2012, this competition provides financial assistance and professional exposure while celebrating the passion of aspiring hairstylists.

    Supplemental questions:
    1. What inspires you as an aspiring beauty industry professional and why should you be selected to receive this award? What will you be uploading for your answer?
    2. Submit a 3-minute video answering the question; What do you want to shout through beauty? Provide the YouTube public URL/web link to view your video. Make sure it does not exceed three (3) minutes and be sure your link works. Be sure it answers the question.
    3. Create a 1-page inspiration board that visually supports your personal story and goals. This can be done electronically using images of inspiration to show the judges your visual story, and uploaded as a .doc or .pdf or .jpg, or you may choose to do this collage-style on paper, scan the image, and upload.
    4. Briefly describe your inspiration board (100 words or less)

Should This Factor Be Considered in College Admissions Decisions?

Almost three-fourths of people surveyed by the Pew Research Center are against consideration of race when it comes to college admissions decisions. Only 7 percent believe it should be a major factor and 19 percent say it should be a minor factor. These views were reportedly shared by "solid majorities of white, black, Latino and Asian Americans."

In 2016, after the Supreme Court affirmed the right of colleges to consider race in admissions, a Gallup poll indicated that approximately two-thirds of the public disagreed with the Supreme Court. Only 9 percent believed that race should be a major factor in admissions decisions, and 27 percent said it should be considered a minor factor. The survey did not end there. [...]
