Hi, my name is Alana Williams. I come from the South Side ends of Chicago Illinois. So as you can guess times was very hard growing up. I’ve always wanted to be a psychology major and become an industrial-organizational psychologist. The reason for that being is That I can handle things of that nature. As of right now I’m apart of an Organization. Which is called “Hope Squad” which is a suicide prevention program which I take part in. I was nominated by my whole school grade back in 2019 to be apart of something so important to me. We as a group have accomplished so much with helping kids. I Will have been taking park of this group for 5 years until I graduate high school. This school year will be my 4th year. The reason I’m here applying is because I’m the type of person that think 20 years ahead of my time. So I can push myself everyday to strive. There is a goal out there that want’s me to touch it and achieve everything that somebody said I couldn’t. I would love for you guys to be apart of why I accomplished my goal. I wanna be the first in my low income family to go to college and make something out of my self and be able to support my family. So to close this out I wanna say THANK YOU sooooo much for your opportunity (and the time because it’s priceless) to speak out and apply for this scholarship it would mean the world to me if I was to get it even if I didn’t I’m so appreciative. Sincerely~ Alana.W

Hello , I did apply for this scholarship and I've always dreamed of working in the medical field since I was a little girl . I've always wanted to be a nurse because I love to help others. I am currently a senior in high school.

Tolu F  on 10/6/2020 7:32:21 PM

Hello! For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of going into the medical field. I am a high school senior and I will be applying to colleges very shortly, planning to major in Biology and to attend full time in the fall. Throughout high school, I've maintained a 3.5 GPA. I've taken some honors courses, AP courses, and I have been on the honor roll for all four years of high school. Not only am I a diligent student, but I am also very involved in other activities. I have recently become the co-president of my school's Black Student Union, I am very involved in my church and I am a youth leader for my denomination's youth group. Concerning athletics, I've been on my high school's track team for the past four years as well. Despite all of these, I cannot rely on these completely to attend college. It has been my dream to become a pediatrician, work with children and care for them. College is very expensive nowadays and I cannot become a pediatrician without a college education. I am a 17 year old African American who does not live in a very diverse area. My goal is work with children, to care for children, and to fight on their behalf to make sure that they are safe in this society.

I also fall under the category of "low-income and first-generation college-bound students" due to my parents having to relocate to Africa because my grandmother was sick. I now have to attend college with no financial support from my parents. I am currently living with my sister who does not make enough to pay for a college students tuition.

My name Is Luis Padilla. I am a 39 yrs Hispanic Male. As a child of immigrant parents, I learned that through hard work and determination anything is possible. Although my parents didnt speak English to well, they constantly worked in order to financially support my siblings and I. As a teen I became a product of my neighborhood environment. And learned the hard way that Life is what you make it. I had children at a very young age. And struggle as a young man. But even In the midst of my struggles and life choices always I knew I was ment for something more then I had limited myself with. I found myself at my lowest in an addiction. And through the grace of GOD. I was blessed to have the opportunity to go to the Diablo Valley Ranch Rehab in Clayton, Ca. It was there that I found my purpose. And how I became motivated to enroll into school. So here I am a 39 yr old married Hispanic man, with 5 kids. Going back to school to follow my dream in becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. I start school April 15th at Purdue Global University and will be majoring in Psychology and science of Addiction Counseling. Success is triumphing over hardships -- willing yourself over anything and everything to achieve the best for yourself and your family. With this scholarship, I will use it to start focusing on my studies in psychology and science in addiction counseling. It will be an investment into myself for my family. Thank you for taking the time in reading this and considering me. -Luis Padilla
