To be eligible for the David L. Holliman African-American Community Service Award, applicants must: be of African-American descent and admitted to an associate or baccalaureate accredited granting scholastic institution; be a U.S. Citizen and Colorado State resident; be a graduating high school senior and scheduled to an associate or baccalaureate accredited granting scholastic institution in the Fall of the graduating year; be 17 through 21 years of age; have a 2.5 GPA; and demonstrate and evidence the ability to set and reach goals as shown by outstanding academic achievement, community service, and/or work-related activities especially those that address health & welfare, environment issues, or business/entrepreneurial endeavors.
Apart from the application, applicants must also submit: a transcript; a personal resume/summary of qualifications with emphasize on community service; a recent personal photograph; two letters of recommendation (one from a community member, and one from a member of the educational staff); and an essay (750-word maximum, double space, one inch margins, 12pt font, Times Roman or similar) on a given topic.
