  • Scholarship Description
  • 18 scholarships will be awarded to Virginia high school juniors and seniors submitting outstanding analytical essays on any aspect--positive or negative--of the career, character, or legacy of General Robert E. Lee and/or General "Stonewall" Jackson.
    The Foundation will award one $2,000 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship to students whose essays are judged to be the best in each of Virginia's eight public high school regions.
    In addition, the Foundation will award one $2,000 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship to private school or home-schooled students whose essays are judged to be the best from this sector.
    An additional award of $8,000 will go to the public school, private school, or home-schooled student who authors the essay judged to be the best in the state. This student will receive a total award of $10,000.
    A $1,000 award will be given to a school in each of the nine judging sectors in the name of the high school teacher or advisor who sponsors the most participating students in that sector.

In response to the NCAA's vote to allow athletes to profit from their names, images and likeness, Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina has proposed taxing those scholarships. Senator Burr tweeted: "If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income. Gucci is releasing a new line of... diversity undergraduate scholarships for students who are "traditionally underrepresented in the fashion industry." The 1.5 million U.S. university college scholarship program is set to run for four years, targeting students who attend four-year universities.
