Scholarship Description

The Eleanor Davis Pinkham Scholarship will be awarded to a Roosevelt High School graduate entering the University of Washington as a freshman. Selection will be based on: the applicant's academic achievement; the applicant's extracurricular involvement; and the applicant's financial need. The online application will include: basic biographical information; one recommendation letter (it must be from someone who has taught you, which addresses intellectual curiosity, academic potential, and character); three short responses on given topics; an activities resume or curriculum vitae (CV); and an unofficial high school transcript.

The purpose of the Eleanor Davis Pinkham Scholarship is to recognize an academically talented Roosevelt High School senior and to provide financial assistance during his or her first year at the University of Washington. This scholarship is given in honor of Eleanor Davis Pinkham, a 1926 graduate of Roosevelt High School. Eleanor studied philosophy at the University of Washington and graduated in 1931. She went on to become recognized as an accomplished theater administrator at a time when few women were employed in this field. She worked with renowned agent L.E. Behymer and then joined the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, where she stayed for 34 years, retiring as the managing director in 1974.
