  • Scholarship Description
  • The purpose of the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation (LRAEF) scholarship program is to support the continuing education of individuals pursuing a career in the culinary and/or hospitality industry. Scholarship awards are merit-based and may vary based on available funds. The LRAEF reserves the right to make exceptions based on circumstance. Checks will be issued directly to the educational institution after confirmation of student's full-time enrollment is received. Funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, room, and board.

    Presented by the LRA CENLA Chapter, this scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants from the chapter's eleven (11) parish area: Avoyelles, Beauregard, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon, and Winn parishes.

    Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted in a bachelor and/or associate degree seeking program for at least two (2) consecutive semesters/terms after the award date. Courses of study can include, but are not limited to, culinary, hospitality & tourism, business, or management programs in order to pursue a career in the restaurant, food service, tourism, or hospitality industry. Funds cannot go to certificate programs. Applicants chosen as scholarship recipients must be classified as full-time students.

    Supplemental materials:
    -Three (3) letters of recommendation & character reference forms (no relatives)
    -Current official transcript (originals only)
    -Copy of ProStart Certification (if applicable)
    -Essay (500-word minimum, 1,000-word maximum; typed double spaced)

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
