  • Brandon Walker was a member of Swan Valley High School Class of 2011. Brandon volunteered at the Mid-Michigan Children's Museum in Saginaw and with the Tittabawassee Township Police. He enjoyed helping kids that participated in a youth football league. On July 9, 2011, Brandon passed away at the age of 18 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He had fallen asleep behind the wheel after working in the morning at his summer job.Brandon's mother, Catherine Kalahar-Walker, and father, Steve Walker, have established the Brandon Walker "BW" Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing a college education in honor of Brandon's passion for helping youth.

    Eligibility:
    -Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
    -Graduating high school senior from Swan Valley High School
    -Applicant must have played sports for four years during high school
    -Applicant must have received a varsity letter in at least one sport
    -Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree
    -Must be enrolled full-time

A professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz believed she was "unstalkable" up until a student of hers began sending messages that were at first flirtatious and ultimately turned to threats of rape and murder. Much of the #MeToo conversation in higher education revolves around educators who "harass" or "target" students; but some educators themselves actually become vulnerable to harassment by their own students and remain silent out of a sense of guilt, embarrassment, and often the fear of losing their jobs.
