  • Scholarship Description
  • The Bruce Shelton Scholarship was established in June 1991 to provide a consecutive four-year renewable award
    for a graduating high school student from a Forsyth County public high school who displays the traits of athletic excellence, academic achievement, leadership, and social responsibility for which Bruce Shelton will be remembered by those who knew him The scholarship is to be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board at accredited institutions of higher learning.

    To receive consideration, applicants must:
    -Have achieved athletic excellence - student must have excelled in at least one varsity sport
    -Demonstrate social responsibility - student must have participated in at least one extracurricular or community activity
    -Demonstrate academic success by achieving minimum unweighted high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 as of the first semester of the 12th grade and be ranked in the top 25% of the senior class
    -Demonstrate leadership by possessing qualities that exhibit a willingness to “go the extra mile”

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
