The Bandit Scholars Program was founded in 2009 by the Quad Cities River Bandits' team owners Dave Heller and Bob Herrfeldt; the program pays the entire first year of college tuition for two Quad Cities area students through the Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship and the Bandit Scholarship. The deserving recipient of each scholarship will not only have excelled in the classroom, but will have been active in sports and extracurricular activities at their school; have had an impressive history of helping others, even when no one is looking; have demonstrated leadership and compassion; and have already made a positive impact in our community through his or her actions, activities and work experience. Each winner will also have shown a commitment to continue his or her work to make the Quad Cities a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.
Both scholarships are open to current high school (or home-schooled) seniors who reside in the following counties:
- Illinois: Henry, Mercer, Rock Island, and Whiteside
- Iowa: Cedar, Louisa, Muscatine, and Scott
