  • Scholarship Description
  • These merit based, nonrenewable, scholarships will be given to undergraduate students admitted to Ohio state or private colleges and universities who can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to careers in environmental sciences or environmental engineering.

    Scholarship awardees will be selected on:
    -Academic record with an overall GPA of at least 3.0
    -Education employment, and/or internships, honors/awards, professional memberships, publications, presentations given and professional meetings attended, and community service
    -Reasons for choosing a career in environmental science or environmental engineering and how the scholarship will help -Original research, scholarship, employment, and/or internships, or other unique contributions to environmental science or engineering
    -Extracurricular activities and participation in organizations that demonstrate leadership, interpersonal skills and social responsibilities
    -Letters of recommendation from education or environmental professionals

    Scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, books, personal protection equipment, tools, instruments and field equipment but not housing.

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
