    Congratulations on your interest in applying for the Margate-Coconut Creek Firefighters Benevolent Scholarship, focused on improving the fire service through the perpetuation of study in the areas of fire science and emergency medical services.

    The Margate-Coconut Creek Firefighters Benevolent Scholarship is awarded twice a year to individuals looking for a career as a Firefighter, EMT or Paramedic.

    The scholarship will be awarded twice annually, once in January and again in July. The funds will be paid directly to the institution the recipient attends.

    Please carefully review the application information below!

    Completed applications must be submitted by December 31st for the January Award and by June 30th for the July Award.

    Criteria for Consideration:

    All candidates must:

    Be a resident of Broward County
    Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
    Have been accepted to an institution offering programs in Firefighting, EMT, or Paramedic
    Complete the online application form
    Complete the online essay

    Scholarship Award Requirements:

    Provide an acceptance letter from college/institution
    Copy of class schedule
    Copy of Driver's License
    Three (3) letters of reference

    Scholarship Awards:
    Each scholarship awarded will be in the amount of $500. The scholarship awarded will be paid directly to the institution the recipient attends. Scholarship funds can be used toward tuition, books, room and board, or anything else required by the college/institution.

    Selection for the Margate-Coconut Creek Firefighters Benevolent Scholarship recipient will be made by the Scholarship Committee after careful consideration of each application. All applicants will be notified of the results.

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
