  • Scholarship Description
  • In 1919, the United States Congress passed legislation that would redefine our country forever – an amendment to the Constitution giving women the right to vote. On August 26, 1920, this legislation was ratified by the states and became the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. To honor this significant moment in history, the Network of enlightened Women (NeW) Essay Contest is giving women the opportunity to reflect on and write about the importance of this movement and how it has impacted women in America. The NeW Essay Contest will be open to female high school seniors and college students. One high school student and one college student will each win a $500 scholarship and potentially have the essay published by our essay co-sponsor, the Washington Examiner. Personally, I'm applying to this scholarship hoping to land every possible opportunity that I find. I was never one to grow up with financial issues, but it's always been a topic for me to have some sort of stress over. I'm a junior in high school who is very excited to get into the college I've been dreaming of getting accepted into. I have a little brother with Down Syndrome who I love and adore deeply. The Corona virus has been hard on our family because of this, which means I'm unable to get a job in order to protect him from coming in contact with the virus. Therefore, I am looking for every chance there is to help pay for my college funds. These scholarships can hopefully help me in the ways I'm searching for.

These “no student loans” colleges replace student loans in financial aid packages with additional scholarships and grants to help fund a student’s tuition. Students accepted into these schools will pay much less than the cost of tuition and thus will not be as burdened with student debt. [...]
