  • Scholarship Description
  • Applicants for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Transitional Scholarships will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

    -Applicants must be a SAG-AFTRA member with at least 10 years of vested pension credits OR a lifetime earnings of $150,000 within the SAG-AFTRA jurisdiction
    -Submit a transcript of all high school, college and university courses and evaluation, SAT or ACT scores, and any other relevant information regarding prior academic history and achievement, including extracurricular activities
    -Submit a copy of the previous years Federal Income Tax Returns for applicant and spouse, if applicable, including Schedules A, B & D
    -If either the applicant or spouse is incorporated, the Corporate Tax Return must be submitted as well as “S” Corp IRS Form.
    -Submit a detailed disclosure of current assets, liabilities, and expenses
    -Write a personal essay between 350-750 words on a topic of their personal choice. A new essay is required for reapplication
    -Submit two personal letters of recommendation from persons in the new field who can speak to the applicant’s aptitude in the area and ability to fulfill the outlined educational requirements. New letters of recommendation are required for reapplication
    -Universities, colleges, specialty adult schools, and trade/vocational schools must be fully accredited and licensed
    -Dependents of members on Honorable Withdrawal or Deceased are eligible to apply

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
