  • Scholarship Description
  • The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), in partnership with Lowe's, is pleased to provide financial assistance scholarships to undergraduate students at TMCF member-schools who are in their final semester of their degree program and scheduled to graduate in the spring semester. Students must have an unmet financial need ranging from $500 and not to exceed $3,100.

    Eligibility:
    -Be a graduating college senior
    -Attend one of the TMCF's 47 member-schools
    -Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
    -Have an outstanding account balance between $500 and $3,100
    -Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien

    Submission materials:
    -Resume (should demonstrate community service and leadership abilities)
    -Current account balance statement
    -Student aid report
    -College transcript (official or unofficial)
    -Essay with a minimum of 500 words on the following topic: What are your post-graduation plans and how will the gap scholarship help you to achieve your goals?
    -Documents must be in PDF format only. Only completed applications will be considered

"OK to Be White" Signs a "Sign of the Times"?

"It's okay to be white" signs were scattered on college campuses across the country, as well as in Canada over the past week. Reportedly, the signs were first suggested on an online chat forum called 4chan, calling on people to place posters in their area on Halloween night. At Harvard Law School, at least 20 handmade stickers with the message "It's ok to be white" were posted on light poles and electrical boxes. Harvard Law's Dean of Students Marcia Sells condemned the posters, stating the posters and stickers are "intended to divide us from one another" and that "HLS will not let that happen here." The Department of Public Works removed the stickers shortly thereafter. Even after they had been removed, the message continued to circulate via social media through hashtags and videos, gaining both condemnation and support. [...]
